Pants.. Over or under the belly?

what do you guys prefer? I keep hearing that under the belly pants are "the best thing ever". But I can't seem to stand having any kind of pressure down there. Maybe I'm carrying low? First time mom over here, so I'm still trying to get the hang of everything.

Re: Pants.. Over or under the belly?

  • I have maternity jeans from Motherhood and they come up over the belly. At first I thought I would hate this because I hate having my jeans high up on my stomach. However I actually really like them. I know when I bend over no one is going to see my "plumbers crack". Lol I had one pair of under the belly but for me they only worked until about 16/18 weeks and then they were uncomfortable. They also slid down more.

  • I have both and have to say they are both equally as uncomfortable. I can't seem to find anything that's comfortable anymore.
  • I like under the belly until I got so big, now I feel more supported by over the belly pants :-)
  • I have both and tend to like over the belly better. The under belly panel(while comfy) seem to cut into my skin making me look like I have a muffin top. Full panels are more streamline on me.
  • Over! So much more comfortable and I know I'm covered. If I wore them under the belly, I don't think they would even stay on me anymore...lol
  • Over for sure! Like OP I think I'm carrying pretty low and having any kind of tight band underneath my belly is super uncomfortable. I bought some cute black pants at Loft maternity with the full panel and wear them pretty much every day.

  • I'm not big enough yet to choose but I recall hating maternity pants with my first. All that fabric way high made me claustrophobic I would fold it in half. I lived in maxi dresses but it was a fall baby so that worked. Not sure what I'll do this time.

  • Over!! The under are more comfortable however they press on your bladder .... So I feel like I have to pee all day and I don't need any help with that! Lol ( I own 3 pair under and 2 over and always end up in the over lol)

  • I kind of want to try the ones over the belly, but as of now all I have are the ones that come below the belly and I don't mind them. Although I must wear a cami with them, because I feel uncomfortable with them coming low, and if I bend down, with a shirt, my back might show. So I always have to wear a cami.

  • I prefer the under belly style. However I tend to measure small so that may be part of why they feel better on me. I have a pair of over belly ones and even towards the end of the pregnancy I always felt like I was yanking them up.

  • I'd love some over the belly ones but I can't find any maternity trousers to fit my size (I'm a UK 24!!). So I'm still in my regular clothes and under the belly which is uncomfy :(
  • Over the belly, definitely more comfortable.

  • Over the belly 100%. The only thing I wear under now is my pj pants. And I don't find them comfortable anymore.

And I love with over the belly you have no worries of anything showing when you bend over. I LOVE my maternity pants!!!
  • With my other pregnancies it was always over the belly. This time I'm not so sure...... It's so different from anytime before.
  • I personally don't have a preference. If it's under the belly it must be a loose fit with no restriction. If it's over the belly it must be completely over the belly, I get uncomfortable if it's only partially covered.
  • For awhile I thought over was more comfortable, but I felt like they were too tight yesterday but I was having BH I think.

So now I think under. IDK.

  • I wear the over belly. I did not find them comfortable before I popped though. There was too much fabric for my liking. I would fold them over. But, I am big enough now that I find that uncomfortable. Never tried the under belly but I don't think I would like them because I don't like wearing my pre-preggo shorts because of where they hit me.
  • Over the belly is my fave. I have one pair of under the belly jeans from Gap, and I always feel like I'm pulling them up or adjusting. With over the belly pants, I feel like I have a little more support and look more streamlined. I just ordered another full panel pair of jeans, since the under the belly pair will soon not be too comfy.
  • Over! I told myself I wouldn't buy maternity clothes and just stick with leggings and sweaters. But over the belly jeans turned out to be pretty comfortable, so I bought a few pair.
  • I love over the belly. I cannot stand the added pressure of under the belly and I like the added support of over the belly.
  • I have both. I started with under the belly because that's what I was used to. As my stomach got bigger the under ones got less and less comfortable. I hated the slightest idea of over the belly pants but I tried them and I love them! I wouldn't trade them for anything else! I feel much more secure in those pants and I don't have to worry about the pants cutting into my belly, where the baby is. Hope this is helpful!
  • I have no hips so under the belly would just slide off...
  • I like the over the belly the best. I am the same way and can't stand pants or underwear touching my stomach belly button or below.

  • I love the over the belly pants. I don't like feeling the pressure of the underbelly pants.
  • Over. The pressure on the belly underneath is uncomfortable for me.

  • I prefer over. Inhave one pair of under, but i usually end up wearing them on laundry day. They don't stay put and I'm constantly pulling them back up. Indont have that problem with the full pannels. Plus my belly shows more after with the under pair. I also like the support feeling with the panels... I have chronic sciatica this pregnancy so the more support the better!

  • Over! Motherhood has the best jeans. The most comfortable in my opinion and best quality. Can be pricey but worth it! I love mine.
  • I'm hating them both. I'm carrying high this pregnancy and the over-the-belly from last time don't cover the whole belly and slide down. Under the belly is most comfortable but they fall down, too, although way less. Arg. Dresses seem to be the best fit right now.
