How do you stay active?

The first trimester is filled with morning sickness (and ends there, if we are lucky) stress and sometimes possible losses. How do you stay active during this or any other stages? Any one have tips for moms looking to become a bit more active during this time?
**disclaimer** do not start any kind of diet or physical exercise without consulting a doctor first.

I know if you were active before you can continue with slight modifications. Personally I've been lacking haven't lifted in 6 months? I'd like to limit my weigh gain (seeing as I'm already heavier then I'd like) I plan on yoga and modified pilates.

Re: How do you stay active?

  • I have been walking, doing yoga and pilates, and having spontaneous dance parties with my kids. I try to do at least something everyday, but if I am feeling super awful it won't be particularly intense activity.

  • @cantpickone‌ can I ask how you push thru your nausea? I'm a runner and attend gym classes and spin clases regularly prior to getting pregnant and still did until I got sick at 5 weeks. Now I feel like I'm gonna hurl at any given time!

Ditto to this. I really try to take advantage when I'm feeling alright rather than when I feel downright terrible. I at least try to get out for a walk with my kids everyday, even if it's just around the block. Sometimes it's been hard to motivate myself with the cold weather but I know it's not only good for me, but it's good for the kids too. I know once 2nd tri hits, I'll be feeling much better and will be up for much more.

  • They have prenatal workout DVD's you can buy with low impact workouts. I read you aren't supposed to do anything high impact, especially if you weren't before. I have a couple DVD's that range from 20 minutes to an hour with light cardio and strength training. Summer Sanders and Denise Austin. They are are a little too perky for me when I am not feeling great, but I feel better afterwards.

I really like Leslie Sansone. Her workouts are mostly low impact and she has a lot of variety.
  • I haven't gotten sickness yet so I been running almost everyday like I was before but cut out my long runs. I'm scared to do yoga as some of the moves like plank or being on my stomach don't feel right. I always did high intensity exercises like insanity so I'm doing that too but modifying some of the moves along with free weights. I think as long as you're doing something for 30min or more even if just walking that's great. I'm also a personal trainer for 18 years...no experience in pregnancy workouts though.
  • I've been trying to walk (I jogged before), but it makes me feel so sick and makes my nipples hurt like crazy. Between the fatigue and the nausea, I find it extremely hard to do anything, even though I feel gross and I want the work out.
