I forgot to take Folic Acid for 1 month!

hi! I just realized I bought a two pack of prenatal vitamins. One of them contained just DHA and EPA. The other bottle was multivitamins containing the iron and folic acid and such. I didn't know this however I thought they were both the same thing which was multivitamins with DHA. Anyway I took the DHA only pills for a whole month without taking any of the vitamins. I now realized that I was supposed to take one of each from each bottle. Sorry I know it sounds confusing. I am just really worried now that I missed out on a whole months of folic acid and other vitamins. I only took the DHA and epa. Anyone else ever been in this type of situation or just not taken folic acid or vitamins throught there pregnancy?? I'm really worried. I'll be 18 weeks on Monday . Thanks in advance for any replies.

Re: I forgot to take Folic Acid for 1 month!

  • Something similar happened to my cousin, she had these prenatal vitamins from Whole Foods that she was taking once a day.  Come to find out a month or perhaps more later, that she was supposed to be taking six a day!  Needless to say she was worried but her baby is 20 months old and perfect.

Vitamins are just meant to make up for what may be lacking in your diet.  Folic Acid is found in other foods such as spinach, it's fortified in some Orange Juices, etc.  More than likely your baby is getting everything it needs!  Try not to worry!

  • I didn't take folic acid because I didn't know I was pregnant until to late, the midwife told me not to worry, it's a recommendation not something that you have to take. I've had scans and been told everything looks fine, don't stress to much
  • Mrsbeachcat I don't appreciate your comment.

  • I thought you could stop taking folic acid after 12w? this is what my midwife told me. Obviously I had all my bloods and everything is perfect and she said that I didn't have to carry on taking the folic acid after the first trimester. I'm now 16w and haven't taken any folic acid since 12.. Is this a problem?! Should I still be taking the tablets?

    Thank you ladies.

No this is the reason I took no folic acid as I found out later. And my midwife said that it was to late to start taking it...
  • @laurawaller7‌ thank you! I had a sudden gush of panic when the lady who created the post said she was 18w and hasn't been taking it, as I didn't believe it to be an issue after 12 :) hopefully this helps you as well @mjpiccini‌

    Thank you!

  • I was taking additional folic acid w my prenatal and my dr said it wasn't necessary because prenatals contain everything needed.
  • Also there is folic acid in all breads and bread products so you probably got quite a bit in your diet! :)
  • Lol thank you and thank you for your response. It's my first pregnancy and I felt horrible. I have been taking it previously I just got confused with the bottle. My luck lol. Thank you again! @kelckings‌

There is no need for you to be on here. You'r negativity is not welcomed. @mrsbeachcat‌
  • @laurawaller7‌ thank you! I've been taking folic acid since I was 6 weeks pregnant. I just misread the bottle lol. So of course this is my first pregnancy and I freaked out ! Lol thank you for the positive feedback. I feel better !
  • Not negative at all. Sarcastic. I'm sorry that your serial killer baby is going to grow up with such a buzzkill for a mom.
  • Would you like it if someone wished or said that about your child? @mrsbeachcat‌

  • Why are you spending time on this website instead of taking your folic acid? You're killing your baby!

Um, I am so confused by your comments. I can't imagine what must be wrong with you for you to be acting like such a miserable shrew.
  • I was so sick with my daughter, I couldn't keep any vitamins down for a while. Try not to worry.
  • Our bodies were made to do this so I wouldn't panic if you missed some folic acid. On the bright side, you missed out on a month of constipation hahahaha
  • Haha thank you so much! Yes that is so true !!! @biaromoy‌
  • @Ckorines‌ oh man ! Thank you so much I feel a lot better ☺️
  • Don't stress, it's an honest mistake. Folic acid is most important to take while TTC and the first trimester. Talk to your OB or midwife about whether you should start taking it again. My OB wants me on it the entire pregnancy and has me on a mega dose of b vitamins that includes folate in addition to my prenatals.
