Does anyone have any recommendations on a good belly butter? I'm a FTM and have no clue which to get. I've read that Burts Bees is great, as well as The Spoiled Mama brand..
I'm also a first time mom and wondering the same thing. I've heard great things about both Burt's Bees and Spoiled Mama, but am not sure what to get. Currently I'm just using my regular moisturizer but not sure when to switch over.
I swear by Neal's Yard Remedies Mothers Balm, I dont know if its available in the US but I used it with No 1 and didnt get a single stretch mark, plus it stopped the itching and at the end of the day when I was getting changed I could still feel that my bump was moisturized, so it really does last all day.
I have been using the Cocoa body butter & Shea body butter and body oil from The Body Shop. I just alternate the body butters one in the morning and one at night. The oil is so nice! Loving it so far! Read good things online about it and decided to give it a try.
Stretch marks are pretty much genetic. Moisturizing will help your skin feel better but will likely do little to nothing for helping you not get them. If you want to know if you will, best thing you can do is ask your mom if she got them.
I bought some raw shea butter and extra virgin coconut oil and whipped them together in a 4:1 ratio and have just been using that for a body butter. I love it, and I don't have to worry about rubbing a bunch of random crap on my stomach. I avoid methylparaben (or any parabens) during pregnancy and don't like using a lot of mineral oil/petroleum in general. Not to mention its insanely cheap that way which is the biggest bonus. For my hands (and my daughter's) I keep some unscented Burt's Bees around.

Yeah have also read it is genetics and if you are going to get them it is going to happen no matter what. Personally I feel better using something than not. I have always been big on moisturizing for the feel and the skin benefits long before pregnancy. It's a personal preference. The question was for recommendations on good belly products. I just find some of the comments on these threads so unnecessary.
I have been using Palmers cocoa butter in the jar (not the lotion) after I shower....not sure if it actually prevents stretch marks, but my skin feels awesome! I also looked at bio-oil, but it was like $25 a bottle..i passed on that
Thanks for your recommendations everyone. Yes, I know stretch marks are hereditary and have already asked my mom if she had them. She did. But that doesn't mean I'm not going to still use something to try to prevent them anyway..and for the itch.;)
I've found Burt's Bees to be incredibly moisturizing. I also love their shampoo and conditioner! I don't believe it will prevent stretch marks, though.
Ok negative nancies out there, yes some will get stretch marks no matter what but what you use, or don't use, will factor in how severely you get them and how painful it will be. No lotion or oil you can bet it will itch and burn and discolor, if you use something then you can lessen the risk of painful, itchy and discolored marks. You don't have to spend a fortune I always used coconut oil and Shea butter

@bashfulbird I will totally love my body no matter what it looks like. We've lost 5 babies and have yet to carry one to term..so I will be grateful with however my body looks. I just have no clue about creams, balms, etc.
The Honest belly cream is kind of greasy and smelly (although most smells are making me sick so it could be my nose) It did stop the itching. I bought burts bees and so far so good and relatively inexpensive
For me and this is my 8th child, but I use daily regardless of pregnancy on my entire body which is, baby oil gel. I have never thus far, received any stretch marks. They say it's genetic, but my mother and sisters have them. The baby oil gel remains all day as the lotions tend to wear off almost immediately. Also, apply your choice of moisturizer on hips, around entire waistline, breast, and upper arms. The places that are prone to gain weight and stretch. Moisturized skin has the elasticity to stretch and not cause itching as dry non - treated skin.
This is my second pregnancy. During my first I used Palmers massage lotion for stretch marks in the pump bottle. I didn't get any stretch marks. Make sure to apply all over belly including sides, thighs and breasts. I started using it again. Good luck ladies.
I used lotions my whole first pregnancy and still got stretch marks. They are gonna happen lotion or not. I did use BIO OIl for three months post and found it really helped with not making them not as visible.
I use Bio Oil every day. Use it on your breasts, belly, hips and butt for best results. You can purchase it in bulk at Costco. It's truly amazing stuff. It helps diminish the look of already existing scars. I never got any stretch marks on my belly with baby #1. But I did get them on my breasts. The bio oil has helped a lot.
I love the Mama Mio line. I use the butter and oil. I have stretch marks at 14 weeks, but happily accept them. Hubby rubs it in! He loves all that comes with pregnancy.
