Re: When to try schedule for twins?

  • I don't think you can force a schedule.  If the babies aren't sleepy, they're not going to sleep.  If they're not hungry, they're not going to eat.  We don't have a schedule, but we do anticipate when they're most likely to be sleepy or hungry and meet those needs before they get too fussy.  Babies tend to have a general pattern of when they get hungry or sleepy, so we manage to that.

  • We couldn't even *attempt* a schedule until 6 months, but once we did, it was great.  We scheduled everything - wakeups, feedings, naptime, bedtime, etc.  Total game changer!

This. I was nervous up to then that we didn't have any semblance of a schedule, except for bed time. Naps, feedings, play time, they were all over the place.

Around 6 months is when I started being cognizant of a schedule. They don't stick to it every day (right now my boy is napping and my girl is being VERY stubborn, grrrrr), but there is a general schedule that they follow.

  • We started around 3 months and then by 4 really kicked it into gear. That being said being flexible by like 30 minutes in either direction is a must. We did the one up both up method to keep them together. When they started daycare at 3 months the schedule really got enforced more.

  • I had a schedule from day one, at least concerning when one did something the other one did also.  You won't always get them both to magically fall asleep at the same second, but nap time is the same, if one takes 30 mins longer to actually fall asleep then that is the way it is but I will get them up at the same time.  Now at 16 months it is so easy for naps and bedtime, we love the regiment but you have to do what works for you.
