Girl names! Opinions please

We are Team Green but have some names in mind. We have our boy name settled but are undecided on a girl name.

Which one of these do you like the best? My husband and I like all three. Any help is appreciated!:

*Lauren
*Kelly
*Cora

  • I like Lauren best. Kelly sounds dated to me and I just don't love Cora (not totally sure why exactly -- I love Nora though).

  • I love Cora -beautiful, old fashioned, not overly common, easy to spell and pronounce, grows well with a child/woman

First, how are you pronouncing Lauren? It makes a huge difference! BTN says it should be LAWR-en but no matter how you spell that pronunciation it's a boys name!! =) (and it's awful imo) if you're pronouncing it La-WREN, it's feminine and beautiful. I know a la-WREN so it's off my list and Kelly is definitely off my list (as you can tell I'm naf of unisex names) so Cora is my vote. I actually don't find it particularly beautiful but I think it's great on someone else's kid =) a little girl was in the store the other week and they said her name was Cora and I was so impressed because it's so uncommon.

  • I really like Cora, it would be my top pick. Second would be Lauren, Kelly seems kind of dated to me

Maybe it's a regional thing but I have never ever hear Lauren pronounced La-WREN (like Sofia Loren??), and I've never heard it as a boys name.  I mean, maybe back in the 1800s (I'm thinking of Laurie from Little Women, though that is a nickname) but I don't know anyone that would hear Lauren and think boy.

My vote is Lauren...in fact I think it is very feminine and pretty.  Kelly was way overused when I was growing up, so as others said, it sounds dated.  I can't pinpoint why, but I am not a fan of Cora.  Maybe because it reminds me of Coral, and I don't like that color??

Loren would be the boy's spelling, but pronounced the same. It's just add common as James or Steve in my culture.

100% agree... Never heard it pronounced more than one way and it definitely crossed over to be a girl's name over a century ago - ha.
But, Lauren and Kelly are definitely popular names from the early 80's ... They may not know anyone in their class with those names but they'll definitely know lots of parents and teachers...

  • Cora is the best la wren will always need to be corrected and kelly seems plain
    BridgetB21
  • Lauren= Law-ren
There is no other way to pronounce it
    BridgetB21
  • Lauren would be pronounced like Loren here in Minnesota. I've never heard it pronounced La_wren but that's pretty too. :) Thanks for all your input ladies! Keep it coming!

  • Kelly seems dated, I would go with Lauren or Cora. For what it's worth I've never met a male with this name, only females.
    BridgetB21
  • Love, love Cora
    BridgetB21
  • Definitely Cora, Lauren and Kelly feel a little dated to me.

  • Cora then Lauren
    BridgetB21
  • Kelly and Lauren may be a bit dated but atleast you know 50 kids at school won't be called the same thing.
    BridgetB21
  • Cora is on my short list. Love it! I find Lauren OK and Kelly too dated and gender neutral for my taste.

  • Lauren. I'm so over Cora
    BridgetB21
  • Kelly sounds very 1980s and "saved by the bell" to me. Lauren is also dated. I know at least 15 Laurens and they're all my age or older. However, Lauren is still better than Cora.
    BridgetB21
  • I am a 1970s Kelly, and I agree with the others, it seems like my generation.

I love Lauren and have tried to get DH to use it for 3 daughters now.

I don't understand the rising Cora. I don't hate it but I don't like it.
