Sleeping positions

So just curious if it is only me or not but how do you ladies sleep at night? I am usually in several different positions but have found myself most comfortable on my side/stomach like not completely face down but angled down. Is it bad to put the pressure on my stomach? My dr hasn't ever said anything about it but I don't want to feel like I'm restricting the baby's room in the womb or like I'm depriving myself of much needed sleep due to being uncomfortable.

Re: Sleeping positions

  • I recommend the Snoogle or some type of pregnancy pillow. It helps to distribute your weight and support you to stay up on your side. I find I sleep much better when I use it and wake up on my back a lot less.

  • You won't crush the baby so don't worry. All it will do it push your uterus back a bit, which will make you uncomfortable, but the baby has a cushy layer of amniotic fluid around them. I sleep however I can get comfy, which changes night to night. Later on you'll want to avoid being flat on your back as your uterus will put pressure on a major blood vessel and make you lightheaded. You can just stick a thin pillow under your right butt cheek and take the pressure off. Looks super hot too
  • I bought just a normal body pillow about 3 weeks ago and it has been the best purchase that I've made since I found out about being pregnant.

I've always had sleep issues...stupid restless legs and this body pillow does wonders to help me sleep! I sleep like you do...half on my side and half on my stomach. If it gets to the point where I'm too far on my stomach the baby will start kicking up a storm until I move. She kicks hard enough to wake me up sometimes, so I know baby is okay in there.

My doctor said that you can sleep on your stomach like that and when its time to stop your body will let you know. Just make sure you don't sleep on your back...that tends to hurt your legs and lower back pretty badly.

  • I have a Snoogle but go between my left and ride side all throughout the night, I can't stand the pressure of sleeping on one side all night. I like that the Snoogle lets me sleep kinda on my side/stomach and still keeps my leg up enough to not feel like I'm squishing my stomach. But my doctor said she's safe in there and I cannot crush her :)
  • I haven't been able to sleep and i use a snoogle i toss and turn only slept 3 hours last night :(
  • I am a back sleeper.  I finally adjusting to sleeping on my side.  But now that my belly is growing, more weight is placed on my hips and my hips hurt through the night and I find myself switching from side to side often in the night... disrupting my sleep.  What helps me is having the thought that I am doing what is best for my baby. :)
  • Thanks ladies! :) I am a sound sleeper so I can normally sleep through just about anything! Haha I will definitely have to look into a snoogle or body pillow.
  • I was a total skeptic but got desperate and bought a snoogle. $40 at Burlington. It was the best money I've ever spent!
  • The body pillow makes me get too hot while I sleep. I just picked a different one up in the shape of a rain drop to try it out... Fingers crossed.
  • I hate my pregnancy pillow! My husband actually uses it. I feel too stuck in one position when I use it. I sleep on my side but slightly on my stomach (sounds like what you do). It's the only way I can sleep.
  • The Snoogle made me feel trapped, and took up a ton of room. This time I am just sleeping on my side with a firm, square pillow between my knees. It takes the pressure off of my stomach, and also my hips. So far, I haven't had hip pain at all like I did the first time.

  • Hate my $70 pregnancy pillow. It's too hard and traps me. I finally found a comfy way to sleep! 3 pillows mushy under head which gives u the option to sit up more if you're having reflux or can't breathe. Then one mushy pillow under the belly on one side and a body pillow on the other wedged under back. Can switch back and forth on sides too. Finally... Sleep
  • I got the big maternity pillow from destination maternity, it's the U shaped 1, it's pricy but well worth it!! I still get insomnia but hey at least i'm comfortable!
  • I ended up using my body pillow for SO and I to use so we can cuddle comfortably with out him taking over my pillow. One regular pillow between my legs, another right in front of my face/breasts to cuddle without anything in the way of my belly, and one behind my back so when I toss and turn at night I don't have to readjust the pillows. I have to kick SO off of my back pillow cause he usually takes over when I'm not using it. I love him he doesn't complain when I reclaim it, he understands how uncomfortable/ possessive I get over pillows.
