diaper rash help!

I'm sure there are plenty of topics on this somewhere but idk how to search for them from my phone....

LO has diaper rash, I'm not talking a little pinkness bur full on bleeding when wiped. Any suggestions for some quick relief? I've tried Destin and Boudreaux's but this sweet baby is in pain!

On a side note, he's been sick with RSV and pneumonia all week, and has had diarrhea for four days straight, I'm not neglecting to change him!

We haven't had anything that severe, but my SIL told me they used "goop" made from half desitin and half A&D when she worked in the nursery at a hospital. We've been mixing that up and using it and it helps clear things up well. It seems pretty mild too, I think.

ETA: hope your LO is on the mend soon! That all sounds harrowing!

  • Air drying! Just let him go without a diaper for as long as you dare as often as you can followed by a&d...we had some really bad diaper rash that cleared up really fast once we did that. If he still has it after several days and hasn't gotten even a little better then it may be yeast so try some monistat.

  • Thank you ladies! I never even considered that it could be the antibiotic, I may call the Dr in the morning.
  • Just like alot of women get a yeast infection after antibiotics.

  • Definitely add a probiotic or yogurt to his diet. I love Triple Paste but if it is blistered and bleeding you probably want A+D plus a paste. And as the others said air dry as much as you can. Since he has diarrhea maybe air him out right after he goes for a little while, then put the cream on. Hope he feels better soon!

  • I made a paste of A&D ointment with Desirin rapid relief, and I coated him! I also smeared it in the diaper so it wouldn't immediately rub off. Saying a prayer it gives him some relief cause he screamed when I touched it.
    Thanks again ladies!
  • Yea I would try some yogurt too if your buddy tolerates it

  • We did yogurt for dinner tonight, just to get something in him. He's been pretty resistant to food this week. Luckily he seems to finally be kicking this so hopefully I can get some more in him for breakfast.
  • We discovered baby acuaphor and it works the best- all other creams seem to make it worse.

Also try giving him banana; it can help with diarrhea.
  • Poor little guy. DD used to get that bad sometimes. I always just took her to the Dr. When it was that bad. Sometimes they would say it was yeast and sometimes not. Sometimes they would give us a prescription and sometimes suggest over the counter. I think we sometimes did a monistat/polysporin combo. I definitely agree with the air time and make sure the bum is COMPLETELY dry before putting on your barrier cream, if you're not already doing that.
  • Burt's Bees!!! It is so thick that it stays on even through poops and really allows the sore spots to heal up.

  • Ohhh I love Burts Bees chapstick, I bet the diaper cream is good!
  • It is seriously the best.  When DS was a newborn he had the same thing - bleeding spots that would not seem to heal up.  It was heartbreaking.  We tried Butt Paste, A&D, and Destin with no luck.  A friend sent me the Burt's and told me it was the only thing that worked for her and she was so right.  It's the only one we use now.  I always gift it to new moms too and have heard from them all that it was awesome!

  • What helped us was doing a quick sink bath after poops, then going sans pants/diaper for as long as possible. I just put a waterproof pad or thick quilt under her while she plays.

We also use this stuff, which is what the NICU sent us home with. It's great.
