January 2013 Moms

Here's a weird question

I got my period while I was sleeping last night and there was a blood stain on the sheets.  DD happened to see it this morning (actually, she noticed before me) and she said "Oh no, Mommy, are you hurt?"

I was surprised that she can connect the idea of blood with someone being hurt.  I want to be open about bodily function stuff, but not sure what the age-appropriate response to this is.  WWJ2013D?

Re: Here's a weird question

  • hmmmmmmm... I think at this point I would say "nope, mommy is all better!" and move on. I would not want to lie to her and I can just see my kid being like "my mommy bleeds every month!" to anyone who would listen so at this point I think I would just say no and distract.

  • Ya I think I'd go the same route as @spainy17‌. I'm all for open honest communication but 2 is a bit young to try and explain that. I'm still trying to get my kid to understand why he shouldn't eat his boogers! Lol!

  • LOL!  OK, that's basically what I did, but then second-guessed myself.

  • Totally think you did the right thing. It's easier for them to comprehend a boo-boo over the whole fact of life at two.
