Re: Itch itch itch

  • If you have a rash of any sort or swelling with the itching contact your dr or after hours line (L&D if you don't have an after hours line). This thread will give you suggestions on how to handle the itch https://forums.thebump.com/discussion/12503517/stretch-marks#latest

In the future there is a great search function located at the bottom of the mobile app and search functions on the side and bottom of the webpage to help you get answers quicker. Searching "itchy" or "itch" on the F15 board will bring up even more great advice.

  • It's normal due to an increase in estrogen. I've heard that occasional oatmeal baths help
  • No experience but my friend was just telling me yesterday about how being itchy was one of the symptoms she had for some liver problem that resulted in her having to get the baby out by c-section right away.   I would give your doctor a call just to be safe.

I had cholestasis with my first pregnancy. It only itched at night and absolutely nothing helped. If that is your case talk to your dr. There are meds that can help.
  • I have been super itchy since early on. We live in an area with super hard water and actually put in a water softener about a month ago. It has been life changing in my skin.

But some also recommended Eucerin Skin Calming lotion for the times I am still super itchy. Otherwise I just use coconut oil on my face and honest company oil after a shower.
  • It can also be just because your skin is stretching. Sometimes I get itchy where the stretch marks were from last pregnancy.

  • It's winter and your pregnant.

Both of which will make you itchy.

I'm super itchy from it being winter and the air is drier and being pregnant because your skin is stretching.

Apply lotion twice a day and it helps a lot.

  • This is my second pregnancy with Cholestasis. If the itching is on the palms of your hands or the bottoms of your feet it may be choleostasis. Talk to your Dr. And if you suspect choleostasis insist they check your bile acid levels. I go in for non-stress tests three times a week because of it. Hopefully it's just dry skin.

  • I was diagnosed with cholestasis at 34 weeks and will be induced at 37 weeks. This can raise your risk for still birth in the last month of pregnancy. I would definitely get a hold of your dr.
  • I hope you've found some answers and relief at this point. But if not, I'm going to second the oatmeal baths. I put 1/4 cup into an old sock and tie it off. Steep it in warm water before climbing in. You can even use it as a gentle wash cloth on any super itchy areas. You're bound to itch anywhere your body stretches. Just ask your doctor about it to make sure s/he isn't worried about the location of the itching.
  • I would definitely call the doctor! It could just be dry skin, but it could also be cholestasis. Better to be safe than sorry!
  • Also this could be an allergic reaction. I have been breaking out in hives almost every day. Doctor just has me taking Zyrtec twice day! I think anxiety caused mine. But that was just me, hopefully yours is just something that can be managed!
  • I have been itching really bad for thethe past 2 months I've tried everything I finally buckled down and accepted sum meds frum my doc they're for anxiety and itching they work at times but when I put on clothes or at night it's horrible I'm 37 weeks so I have to wait till 39 weeks to be induced but I've been soooo uncomfortable I don't know sum days if I can hang on two more weeks hopefully u get sum help cuz I know you're uncomfortable
  • Did they test you for chloestesis? If they haven't I would push for it.
