Pregnant after 35

Feeling accomplished!

So firstly I feel like I finally made a tiny dent in all of the baby items that we still need!  We sold literally almost everything thinking we were done having kids. :)   I've been trying super hard to be frugal and smart.  I found a sweet pack n play on Craigslist. Exactly what I wanted! Plays music, has vibrations, boy colors.. it's in absolutely perfect condition.  $70. Picked that up yesterday.

Grabbed a used totally perfect portable swing for $20.  Found another mom at my kids school trying to get rid of her boppy pillow.. which I also got rid of and now need..  and grabbed her boppy with 2 covers for $20!  Found a bumbo seat with straps Saturday for $15.  My step mom went resaling.. this woman is the queen of resale shops.. always manages to find the cutest things..   She bought a bag full of baby boy clothes at the resale shop.  I didn't spend a dime on that stuff.. it's all Gymboree.. Old Navy.. Children's Place.. Gap.. all really cute stuff.. almost all of it has the original tags on them!!

Went and got my 6 yr DS new bunkbeds for his room this weekend. the kind that have a built in dresser. His dresser was broken and has been on my list for like a year!  Finally.. check!  He's totally loving them.  Got a great deal on them too! Entire set.. 397!  Got really nice mattresses.. under 200!

We also found a really cute little girl twin bedroom set for her soon to be big girl room! Ready.. $125 for the entire set! Dresser, mirror, twin bed with frame, and nightstand! Craigslist find again! It's all solid wood. really cute set!

AND our realtor just called.. showing tomorrow!!  Our house was listed almost 2 years ago for 6 months.. NOTHING. it's been listed this time since October.. NOTHING so far.. first showing ever!!

Hoping this is a some sort of sign telling me that everything is going to work itself out and be just fine! I've been SO overwhelmed at the thought of a third child and working full time and daycare costs.. and our tiny 3 bedroom house and etc etc!!

Re: Feeling accomplished!

  • Way to go. Good luck with the house
  • Wow!  That is super-impressive.  You have officially made me feel like a slacker, as I have bought exactly zero things yet, and I see from your ticker that my EDD is pretty close to yours.  Good for you!

  • Nice scores!!!  I am a big fan of second-hand (aka cheaper) stuff!

My future sister-in-law had three daughters and now has a six-month old son.  She has saved all the girls clothes up to 4T.  She also has blankets and burp cloths and all that good stuff.  She brought it all over - 6 Rubbermaid containers full - of clothes and blankets!

Plus, I got a nice swing and bouncy seat, all for free!  She says she still has more stuff including a bassinet.  I am so incredibly grateful!

I plan on buying my crib and dressed/changing table second hand.

  • jerseygirl227 I could not agree with you more!! This is our third child.  I've already done the whole brand new fancy stuff thing and actually I've done it twice!  We had a huge shower with my son in 2008.  I had all new stuff.  But we ended up losing two babies in between him and our DD so there are 4 years between him and our DD.  So some of the stuff ended up breaking in storage (clearly DH did not put handle it with care).  So I didn't have some things and ended up getting brand new girly stuff all over again!  Then I thought we were done so I literally got rid of everything. Our house isn't that big so I just didn't have anywhere to store it all.  I got rid of ALL of DS's clothes. All my gear except nursery furniture, breast pump, and high chair. lol  And the only reason I have that stuff is because DD is only 2 and she's still using the crib and the high chair. She refuses to sit in boosters seats for some reason. lol

This baby was unexpected so I wasn't saving money or planning or anything.  I just didn't want to go nuts.  Daycare alone is going to be INSANE! Where I can save, I like to save!

  • niknak1208 .. I hear ya!  Daycare costs here are so high!  I considered staying home because of it.

Our baby was unexpected as well.  (I just thought I was too old to conceive.)  Well, wrong on that count, lol.  This is my first, but I just can't see spending all that money on brand new stuff, especially since my fiance and I have worked so hard to get ourselves out of debt and in a position to buy a house.

I'll get my travel system/stroller new as well as my bedding.  And I know she'll be spoiled with other stuff since she is the first (and, quite possibly, the only) grandchild for my parents.  :)

  • hikerlady ooh we're beyond our house is too small for this stuff. lol  We made DS go through his toy bins.. all 4 of them..this weekend and get rid of some things that were either broken or he hasn't played with/doesn't have interest in.  I have to go through DD's toy bins when she's not looking or she freaks out. Especially if I touch the baby dolls. lol No touching those baby dolls.. it's serious business!  Her toy bin is like a huge tub full of naked babies. I have no idea why she always takes their clothes off but she does.  She's too busy trying to diaper them I think. :) They have three sets of grandparents and all they do is buy stuff.. constantly!  I keep telling them.. hey.. buy ONE toy.. put the rest in the college account.. seriously people.. they do not need this much crap.

jerseygirl227 if I go back to work.. daycare will be about $1600-$1700/month for all of my kids!! It's insane!  My DS doesn't even go full time anymore because he's in kindergarten but I have to pay for before/after school care which is about $65/week. Infants are usually about $170-$200/week. if I get lucky, I may be able to find a nice homecare place that's much cheaper but a lot of the homecare places near us have closed over the last couple of years.  It's craziness.

I'm going to attempt to shoot toward staying home after baby.. I'm just not certain that we can pull it off! We got rid of all our debt. I still have a JcPenny's card and a Kohl's card but they don't carry balances.

I hope our showing goes well today too. If they, by some miracle, decide to make an offer and it's reasonable.. we'll have to take it. But I gotta tell ya.. I had nightmares all night about the possibility of living with DH's mother! lol

  • jerseygirl227 no lie!  It was actually one of those bad dreams that never seem to stop!  I kept waking up throughout the night and everytime I closed my eyes.. I went right back into it!!!  I woke up and said ummm if we sell this house soon-ish.. we're gonna have to rent until something of interest is on the market because if I live with your mom one of us will end up missing or dead.. I will have either killed her or run away! lol

  • and I just scored my stroller. :) $80 on craigslist. It's usually $199. I think I'm just getting lucky here. It's basically brand new.. hardly used.  This time I'm going to get it. lol  My husband told me I wasn't allowed to send him out bargain hunting this weekend.. he wants to go ice fishing.. soooo I suppose I'll let him do that.
