first ultrasound showing 2 weeks earlier than LMP date- UPDATE

I had my first ultrasound today. According to the first day of my last period I should have been 7W 4D. The u/s tech only saw a sac and a yolk. Did not see a heartbeat (as far as I know- it at least wasn't mentioned). The doctor said I was measuring ABOUT 5W 5D. They scheduled me to come back in 2 weeks to see how the baby was doing then. They seemed like everything was fine, but now I am really nervous. Has anyone had this happen? It's about a 2 and a half week difference than what I thought. I tested on 12/29 and got a BFN and then got my BFP on 1/1. Can someone make me feel better about this?

UPDATE: I went back today and am now 7W 2D and they said everything looks great!!! SAW the heartbeat, a wonderful 142 bpm!!! Don't need to go back for another 4 weeks just to checkup! All the ladies who have been posting about something similar, there is hope

I'm in exactly the same boat- ultrasound today at 7w2d (LMP) but no definitive heartbeat. Just a slight possible flutter (I stress possible) She's measuring me 5w5d as well. Supposed to go back Tuesday or Wednesday next week, hoping to see more. Good luck and keep us posted! I'm praying

Awe man good luck to you both. I think we have a group of ladies going through the no heartbeat stress. Read through some of the other posts where we have shared our stories. Maybe you will find some comfort in that. I'm thinking it's not so uncommon!

If you don't know your exact ovulation date, then going off your LMP to set a due date won't be accurate. That could be a reason for a date discrepancy.

As far as heartbeat goes, most people around here have said they don't hear a heartbeat until 8-10 weeks. At 5 weeks it's very very hard to detect, so try not to worry! I know it's easier said than done, but rest assured you're not the only one who has gone through this.

I've actually been over on the August board since my bfp, but I'm in the same boat. On Tuesday, I had my 1st u/s I was supposed to be 8 weeks 4 days, but all they saw was a sac and pole, and my hcg came back as 31515 which would be normal for about 5-6 weeks. I'm going in for another u/s on Monday, so hopefully I'll be moving here on Monday.

Just assuming that since your EDD is so close to mine that your LMP was Nov. 23rd? Usually pee tests are really accurate the day of your missed period (28 day cycle would be closer to Dec. 22nd) Obviously, this is very general but getting a negative HPT so much later on the 29th makes me your dates are off. Please correct me if I'm way off base here.

That makes me feel a TON better- my original due date was 8/30 but now is 9/12. I was thinking the same thing about the testing since I had a negative so close my my positive. and yes nov 23rd is right

I had been bouncing between here and the August board since I originally thought my EDD was 8/30. Keep me updated on how it goes! Praying and FX!

wow- this really inspired me. Thanks for posting! I went in for u/s Monday thinking I was 7w5d and they said the fetus measured 6w1d...fetal pole and heartbeat but doc said she is "very concerned." Of course I haven't slept in days...thanks so much for posting an update too! Usually ppl don't.

That's amazing news, gives me some hope. I'm exactly in the same boat.....went at 7w2d, I know my dates are correct, baby measured 5w5d on Wednesday. I go back Tuesday. I'm just also concerned bc I don't really have symptoms other than tender breasts and pulling sensations around my uterus. Praying I get such great news!

Try not to stress about it I know it's hard I just kept thinking to myself "no bleeding I'm still pregnant and I love my baby" good luck I will say a prayer for you!

So happy for you!! I had a similar experience. I've had mmc in the past and each time the baby just wasn't growing. This time when I went to the doctor the first time he said I was measuring almost a week behind my expectations. Early this week I started getting so paranoid I went to see my doctor again and he said this time baby is right on track with a strong HB! Sooooo happy!!

Same thing here, I went for an US on the 30th due to light spotting and they saw a gestational sac and yolk, I saw a flicker but the Dr wouldn't commit to it not being my own heart beat. He said it looked great for a 5.5 week old pregnancy I thought I was 6.5 weeks. I also go back in 2 weeks for a repeat. After reading everyone's story it seems like 5.5 weeks is the magic number in this stage of the game. US are often wrong they told me my first baby was going to be 9 lbs and she was 6 lbs 12 Oz so US are limited especially in the early part of the first trimester

Hi! I'm so happy this string is here as I'm in the exact same boat. Went in to have an us last week hoping to hear the heartbeat and Dr. Saw no fetus or heartbeat yet just a gestational sac and amniotic sac. I automatically starting crying thinking the worst since I had a miscarriage the last time I was pregnant and my mind went to the worst and the Dr explained that I may just be too early to see the fetus and scheduled me to come back in a week. As you might imagine, it has been the worst week of my life and I have been a nervous wreck... I'm going back in on Wednesday and praying for good news... See other ladies in this similar situation with a positive outcome has calmed me down a bit. Good Luck to you all and hope you enjoy your journey of pregnancy :~)

Thank you all for posting about this! Brings good perspective to consider. We go in for ours tomorrow morning. I have no idea what to expect since my cycles are so long and irregular and my ovulation patterns are also tricky to track. I feel so confused about how far along I really am, so I'm excited even to just find out baby's gestational age. But I've been very nervous about whether we'll hear a heartbeat. Glad to know that it just might mean Squish is younger than I thought. Hoping for good things!

I went to the doctor 2 and a half weeks ago, thinking I was 8 weeks. LMP 11/15, but I thought i ovulated 12/4 or 12/5. The ultrasound showed that I was 7 weeks, and we saw a heartbeat. The doctor didn't seem concerned, and asked me to come in 2-3 weeks to give me an accurate due date. Went in yesterday morning, turns out I'm now 9 weeks 1 day, and we heard a strong heartbeat! This was a different ob in the practice, and she also did not seem concerned that I was measuring behind. This pushed my due date to 9/6; this is feeling like the longest first trimester ever! My point here is that I went through the same thing and everything seems to be okay!
