I don't think it's a must but I enjoyed ours. When we lived in a ranch we kept it in the nursery, when we moved to a 2-story we put it on our main level in the living room and would change the kids upstairs on our bed.

No we used a dresser for one and a vintage kitchen piece for the other. They both look better than changing tables and I wanted pieces that were unconventional and would last forever.
SIL never had one for my nieces and honestly it wasn't missed. We usually just layed a changing pad or folded swaddeling-type blanket on the nursery floor and that worked just fine. DH and I are on a budget and since LO will be in our room, we honestly don't have the space for one anyways. I don't feel like I HAVE to have one though, they're definitely not necessary if you ask me.

We're doing a changing pad on a dresser top and my FIL is going to build a frame to go around the top that will help keep the pad from sliding when the baby gets wiggly.

My mom is insisting on getting me one to "save my back" because I've had previous back surgeries, but honestly even for me I don't think it's a must have. SIL has a changing pad on top of a dresser and when I'm there it works just fine for me! If I do end up with a changing table I want one with dresser drawers.
We have one that we "used" with my girls. It was pretty much used as storage for extra diapers, wipes, burp cloths, bibs, etc. Rarely used for actual diaper changing. I tended to use the floor, the couch, or the diaper changing station attached to our pack n play.
Also want to add that I would not purchase a changing table because once all my kids are out of diapers, I won't have use for it anymore. The dresser that I'll use instead will still be useful in one of the kid's rooms long after the diapers are gone.

We used one for DS and love it. It's handy. But that being said, I also changed his diaper everywhere that was convenient at home last time. We will use it again this time. Ours has a drawer with organizers to put nick nacks that we used such as creams/comb/thermometer and a wipes holder and diaper storage area. I recommend having one.
No way! Just get a nice dresser that will transition with your baby from it's nursery to toddler room to child room. Throw a changing pad on top of it and you are good to go.
Definitely not needed. We also did the changing pad on top of a dresser (they typically come with a strap that will allow you to screw it into the back of the dresser so you don't have to worry about the pad sliding off). But we changed DD everywhere, mostly floor or the ottoman from our couch, unless we happened to be in her room. Now we have 2 levels (as compared to our old tiny 1 level apartment), so I bet I will use the changing pad even less this time.
I would definitely suggest a little basket or diaper caddy to keep in your main living area - we kept ours stocked with diapers, wipes, changing mat, lotion, etc. So everything we needed for a diaper change was right there. And we could easily take it all from room to room if needed, or throw in the trunk for weekend trips. We had this one
Did not buy one so definitely not a must. Our play yard had a changing table like feature that we used for the newborn stage. We pretty much used any flat surface available after a few months and baby started moving.
You can buy just the changing pad and use it anywhere or a folding type pad. We didn't even use that.
