Dr saying girl before ultrasound.

Just curious I have my ultrasound set for Monday to find out what I'm having. It's my second baby and this pregnancy is completely different. So i was thinking different sex well today I had a Dr app and my ob said I'm guessing a girl. Any idea why she would say it

  • Everyone has their feelings on what the baby might be. Everyone has a 50% chance of being right, including your OB.
  • My doctor says the HR being over 160 at the first appointment almost always seems to be a girl for her.  She qualified her statement by saying it was just a guess, and an anecdote and not based in ANY science, but just what she had experienced so far, and I was yet another case of it being right.

  • She's just having fun with you. Not that she really knows. Take it with a grain of salt.
  • Like your dr. said, "I'm GUESSING girl". It's 50/50. Everybody likes to take a guess at it to see if they are right.

  • For the same reason everyone else and their mother feel entitled to share their guess?

  • Did you ask her why she thought that? (Her answer would be better than us trying to read her mind.)
  • Everyone loves to guess so why not your doc
  • The doctor I saw last said that he thinks my LO is a girl because it was growing how it should be and doing everything right, and boys normally cause problems. I just think he likes to guess and see if he is right once the baby comes.

  • My doctor guessed girl at my 8w and then boy at my 12w. She was sure to say "this is based on nothing scientific and is only a guess" first...probably because some people don't realize that the only way to know the sex prior to seeing genitalia at the anatomy scan is genetic blood testing.

For the record her first guess was right, it's a girl.
  • A friend's Dr. guessed girl due to high heartbeat... Totally a boy :)
  • At our AS Tuesday the heart rate was 159. I said "it's a girl then!" And the lady said very dryly "my experience is that is not true". We are team green and didn't find out. Took a lot of willpower though; I was very tempted to say "oh to hell with it let me know".

She was probably being very dry because you're having a boy.

  • Same thought as Trampslikeus. My OB said that last time he thought lo was a girl based on heart rate and yet DS is in fact a boy.

  • Omg the bump app has been saying "he" in the weekly updates that must mean I'm really having a boy right?!?

My dr kept saying boy while only listening to the heart beat. Two ultrasounds have confirmed girl! They are just assuming. Don't take it serious until you actually KNOW!
  • I think it is just small talk.  No different than family, friends, coworkers, and random people on the street who want to make a guess.

Really? It's been "she" for me! I assumed it was the same for everyone. Are The Bump Gods all-knowing? Where's my tinfoil hat?

  • My OB has guessed boy a few times - at the initial ultrasound at 9 weeks, when all you could see was a blurb that was oval shaped, & when looking for the heartbeat - saying she is basing her opinion solely on how stubborn the little bugger is to find sometimes! Last time we listened to the heartbeat she said it was right in the middle (faster and she would have guessed boy, slower she would have guessed girl) and thus couldn't lean either way. She has known from the very beginning that we are Team Green, so she asks us every time if we have dreams or hints as to the sex/gender. I think your OB may be like mine and is probably just trying to have some fun with you. For us its like a guessing game the three of us play every month. I think people just find it fun to guess. You can always tell your OB if their guesses make you feel uncomfortable and they should stop.

  • Our doctor guessed Boy even with a heartbeat over 160 at each appointment (8wk, 12wk, 16wk) found out at 20wk definitely a boy!

It's been she for me too. I was so shocked at my A/S because the tech said, "It's a boy." Now I don't know what to think because the tech and doctor said boy, but the bump said girl. I'm so confused.

I think it alternates every week :)
