Small feet & delivery

So random & crazy, but has anyone else heard that women with small feet have a hard time delivering vaginally? I hope this is some crazy tale, because I wear a 2 1/2 in kids shoes.

Re: Small feet & delivery

  • I hope that the inverse is true because have giant feet! ;-) sorry, but that's just an old wives tale.

I've heard this too! I'm from Ireland and I've been told by my mom and my MIL that when they were having children (late 80's) the rule was that you HAD TO have a c-section, no choice, if your feet were smaller than a size 5 (think that's a US size 7?)...my feet are a size 3 and pretty tiny! Thankfully, that rule is no longer applied here!

Edited: I should probably clarify that I'm not concerned about my small feet affecting my ability to give birth!
  • I'm pretty sure that one is a myth. I can't possibly see how foot size and birth canal could possibly be reated in terms of ease of giving birth.

  • I have size 11 1/2 and have c-sections.
  • I have pretty small feet (I'm small all together though). And I had a complication-free vaginal delivery :) I wouldn't worry too much.
  • I'm just curious how some of you keep your balance on such tiny feet! lol! I wear a 5 or 6 in kids shoes and I thought I had tiny feet!

I was thinking the same thing! I wear a 10-11 depending on the brand. Ya'll have such tiny little feet! lol!

I think being in different countries, the sizes are different.
  • Is this like the relation of hand size to penis size??
  • I have tiny feet (womens 5, forgot the kid size that's equivalent to) and I had kid pushed out in six minutes.

    Maybe I'm just awesome, though.

    That makes sense. but STILL!!!
  • It sounds like a wives tale to me. But one could argue that there is a connection because women with small feet are usually smaller in size overall and therefore their pelvis is smaller potentially making birth more difficult. I highly doubt it has anything to do with your feet. It all comes down to baby size and your pelvis....if the baby can't fit it doesn't matter if you wear a 2 or an 11
