Usually your Pedi will recommend what to do based off your individual child. We did fruits and veggies with DS first. This baby won't start on anything until 6 months or so.
Yes, I agree. I have one of those pedi's thats been practicing for about 30 years and he basically gave me the green light to start at 4 mos. but I have waited a little longer. Curious what other moms were doing. I know its a wide range but I like to take all ideas then decide.
We started with happybellies oatmeal then moved to sweet potato next. He's just over 5 months and I have to mix fruit with most veg right now, he is not a fan of peas, squash or beans. So we'll slowly decrease the fruit mixed in to get him use to the flavor. Loves pears and prunes!
We started with rice cereal for a week alone. Then we added a serving of applesauce for a week, then carrots and lo did not like them. Then we tried squash and then green beans and she lived both of those. I would recommend squash first
Our DS is 5 1/2 months. We started cereal at about 4 1/2 months. We just recently gave him squash as his first "food." He's kind of "meh" about it - but I don't know if that's because he's "meh" about the texture, or "meh" about the taste. I guess we will find out when we start sweet potatoes tonight!

I just tried sweet potato tonight. I was always told to lean towards veggies before the fruit. Once they get the taste of fruit its harder to get them to try the veggies. Not sure how much truth there is to that.
Re: started oatmeal..what next?
Then moved on to thin, cooked sticks of carrots, bits of meat.
