Daycare won't Warm bottles

I know its early to be looking into daycares but I'm a planner! One of the daycares near our house says on their website "we cannot warm bottles in our facility". Does anyone else find this odd? Cold breast milk? It just doesn't make sense to me.

Re: Daycare won't Warm bottles

  • With my first daughter we never warmed her milk

  • If you don't warm their milk at home, it won't make a difference!

  • You don't need to warm it. If you don't warm it up at home the baby will never expect it warm
  • But if I'm breast feeding the milk will be warm
  • But it will be stored in a fridge if you are ever not the one feeding the baby.

I think you are thinking about this too much. I am also planning on breastfeeding but I don't expect my husband or the day care to warm every bottle. Before I go back to work I want to practice pumping some and I will start trying to feedthe baby cold breast milk from a bottle then
  • If your baby is use to warm milk he or she may not take the bottle. My nephew is use to warm milk. We were out to eat with them one night and his parents didn't warm his bottle up. He rolled the nipple around with his tongue and wouldn't take it. Personally, I would cross they facility off the list if you are planning to breastfeed.
  • My son was breastfed at home but I also pumped for the day care and he never had a problem switching between warm milk from the breast and cold from the bottle.
  • My daughter refused cold milk. She'd rather go hungry for 10 straight hours. I would probably go with a different daycare.
  • If you have a problem with it, the facility is not the one for you. Also, if you plan on not nursing in public remember you won't have a bottle warmer with you at the mall either. The breast milk idealy will be stored with ice packs, so it will be cold.
  • My son decided at 9wks he only liked super warm bottles. That facility would be a no go for us.

  • Both my nephews and my niece (all different parents) wouldn't take a cold bottle, I think that's why this baffled me. I think I will have to cross this one off the list since I'm not sure what my baby will do with a cold bottle.

I don't have a problem breast feeding in public. If my boobs are available it's much easier than carrying around bottles. Just my personal preference.
  • It may be a legal issue as well, we are not allowed to warm students' food in the microwave at school, so you can't be accused of scalding them.

    Stop counting crayons, just draw

  • That daycare wouldn't be for me.
  • Weird! I've never done daycare so I can't say if this is typical or not but I would look into other ones. It is better for their digestion to have the milk warmed a bit, less spit up etc. I would definitely prefer to find a place that would.
  • My son never had a problem going from boob to cold bm from a bottle.

But some babies are super picky (my niece for example...wouldn't even take a bottle. My poor sister!)

  • I nursed both my boys, one for a year and one for a year and a half. Neither of them would even take a bottle :( wouldnt have mattered if it was cold or warm.

My guess is it is a liability issue, but if it has you concerned then it for sure isnt the place for you.
  • Wow. I know it's against daycare regulations to use a microwave to warm bottles (at least in ny), but at the day care I work at we warm the bottles in crockpots.
I'd find a daycare that at least has some way to warm them

  • I worked in the infants room of a childcare center a year ago....Texas law does not prohibit the use of a microwave to heat bottles! Of course, we never used the microwave for breastmilk, just hot water from the sink! Sounds to me like you should look at a different facility.
  • We do hot water from the sink at our facility, ad well. We can heat plain water for formula bottles in the microwave.
