TTC after 35

Newbie

Hi,

no idea if i'm really in the right place as everyone seems to have a partner.  And I'm not sure someone for this thought I have been reading form the sideline hence I registered.  I have had one IVF round at 43.  Awesome egg count, terrible fertilisation rate.  Hope to back up in February 2015 and this time it will be an ICSI cycle.

Good luck to everyone.

:)

I'm 43.  Single.

One IVF cycle November 2014; 14 eggs; 12 mature; 2 fertilised.

Hoping to do another round in February which will be ICSI due to my low fertilisation rate.

I am not sure how to say this without getting a "solicitation" warning so I guess I just say that I am not longer active on THIS site.

  • Welcome and good luck!
  • Thank you to everyone.  Sorry for the delay I didn't get any notifications so I must have done something wrong with my settings.

The first egg collection was 14, 11 mature and only 2 fertilised, but they were very slow and didn't take after ET at day 3.  The FS said this was a really good count for my age (with no known IF issues other than age).  From reading the forum I feel very very lucky to be able to retrieve so many eggs, but then they turn out to be a bit tired.

I did more reading and started on coQ10 (ubiqinol form).  So hopefully that will give them a little power to fertilise next time.  I will have been taking it for nearly three months by the time my ICSI comes around.  I also started acupuncture this month with an acupuncture fertility specialist.  Fingers crossed.

I have no children but have always wanted them, hung on too long to the hope of finding the right man!

Best wishes to everyone else.  I will bookmark and check in more often!

    :)

  • Hi welcome, good luck to you in your TTC journey. Fx for you next month
  • @Miss43 Thanks for sharing your egg count and results.

We are trying to decide if we want to go the ivf route. I am trying to get a better idea of our odds. They were happy with my follicle count of 19 and the RE seemed confident she could get an egg from nearly all the follicles. If we ended up with multiple embryos to work with than ivf would be affordable for us, but i am worried that only a few would fertilize at my age (just turned 42). I keep meaning to start a post of my RE appointment results, but it so exhausting to think about that i have been procrastinating.... :)    Sounds like i should look into CoQ10?

  • @dolphin012.  I guess it's personal choice and I think others have noted their doctors has said it can't hurt.  I read https://www.itstartswiththeegg.com/ and a couple of other similar books I got on my kindle.  I also, quite nerdish like, went to the library so I could access more authoritative sources like medical journals in the databases the libraries subscribe to.  On that front it was similar to the benefits of acupuncture, some say it helps, others say not, others say it can't hurt.  How do you tell frankly!

But the reading made it helpful for me to decide to give it a crack.  I actually take the ubiquinol form of CoQ10 and the literature explains the difference, but ubiquinol is apparently easier to absorb into your body.  Someone else on this site (I think it was this one, not this thread) noted that it thins your blood and they encountered troubles after egg collection.  From memory https://www.itstartswiththeegg.com/ talks about when to stop taking it.  I plan to stop when I start my next cycle.

I actually don't know if it has/will make a difference to my egg quality.  That should be able to be determined for my next cycle should they get any eggs.  But given the sluggish nature of my eggs last time, I am hoping there will be a noticeable difference.  But I don't seem to have any side effects, but I didn't just smash my body with a big dose at first, I started at 50mg for a week and then have crept up to 200 mg per day.  In your research make sure you notice the difference between the different forms of CoQ10 as the dosage rates are different.

For the exhaustion, I didn't find the IVF cycle too physically onerous, but I think I was pretty lucky.  I didn't really bloat (sort of at the end when my ovaries felt like they were going to make a break for it!) and there was no emotional roller coaster.  But I really kept up the water (2 litres a day).  Emotionally it was a little draining.  The only thing I have noticed physically is I put on a few kilos (like 6!) which is really annoying, inspite of not eating more and still doing exercise.

    Good luck!

And thank you to everyone else on the site.  I'm not really a blogger but I am finding this very

  • I agree with reading "It Starts With The Egg."  I found the book very interesting and have since started taking CoQ10 as well.  I read the book during the cycle I had my chemical pregnancy.  After reading that chemical pregnancies can occur due to chromosomally abnormal embryos, I was in for helping to improve egg quality.  I just started this cycle and the book makes it clear the effects will be further down the road, so if I get my BFP this month, it won't be because of CoQ10, but I decided I needed to start looking forward instead of focusing on each month and how it's just going to work.

Good luck @Miss43.  Again, welcome to the board!
