Anyone left on here with SPD?

just wondering if anyone who is currently on here is suffering with true SPD? I know a few had it but I think they made the switch.

It literally is the most painful thing in the entire world. My hips click as I walk. Turning over in bed puts me in tears literally. I can barely walk just because of the immense pain in my hips. Hip pain at this level is not normal. I thought my hip was dislocated the other day and had to go to the ER. Getting in and out of the car is misery.

Can someone help me understand- has anyone had this in a previous pregnancy but not this one?? Is this something that will happen with each pregnancy now? My OB just tells me every pregnancy is different so not a helpful answer to me.

  • I've read that if you have it in one pregnancy you're more likely to have it in subsequent pregnancies :/ hopefully that won't be the case for you if you're wanting more children in the future.

  • I did not have it previously but I do with this one. My midwife has not diagnosed me with it but I am positive I have it as everything you just described happens to me.

I get no relief from it.
  • I don't think I have what you have but this is my third pregnancy and never before did I have such hip pain.

I only get it at night and I'm sure it's from laying on my side. Which I'm a side sleeper anyways so I don't really get it at all.

It is incredibly painful and I've been in tears trying to turn over or get up out of bed. It goes away after I walk around for a few minutes.

Thankfully this baby girl will be making her debut on Friday and I'm praying that will be the end of it.

I feel your pain and wish I could tell you something that would make it better.

  • I feel the same way as you, OP. The WORST pain I have ever had in my life. Nothing helps. Walming, the end of the day in general, getting in/out of bed and turning in bed brings me to tears. I recently looked up some exercises to do and apparently many people are referred to PT to help. Although I haven't learned of any of this until recently.
Can't help you with future pregnancies but I know I will advocate for myself more and be more proactive up front about PT referral.
  • I'm there with you and it's horrible. I'm a FTM so no idea how this will effect subsequent pregnancies.

I had this with my first pregnancy it started around 7months and got so worse I could barley walk and yes turning over in bed made me cry! This pregnancy it started about week 30 and just keeps progressing. I notice the pain is worse from to soft of surfaces (bed, couch) to too hard of a surface (wood chair, floor). The only relief I have found is a pool or hot tub( temp to 95*) to relieve the pressure and feel weightless. It's sooooo nice! I hate hearing other ladies going through this its soooo painful. Hang in there. Mine went away by the time I was home with my baby in my arms.
  • mine came back with a vengeance today!!! I can barely walk, definitely cried while trying to change position today. everytime I get up (i'm at work at a hospital pharmacy), the pain goes from the right side of my crotch down the front and back of my right leg making my leg give out! thankfully this is my last night before leave....I've had spd since my second pregnancy (this is my 4th), and it barely affected my last one. this is by far the worst!  hang in there...I feel like nothing will help me at this point!

  • Gosh ladies I'm so sorry yall deal with this too!! It truly is the worst pain I've ever had. At the same time I'm kind of happy others have this too, to be able to relate to the levels of pain it can be. I always felt like I was alone with it. DH understands somewhat but not fully.

I'm hoping to hang in there just two more weeks! My last question for those of you who had it previous pregnancies.. Did it cause an issue in vaginal birth? I read sometimes you can dislocate a hip and not know it.
  • *raises hand* 36 weeks over here and i've been suffering since around 22 with spd. The chiro has helped me so much, I see a chiro who has a strong medical background an specializes in the webster technique. Hang in there, we all don't have too much longer! I totally feel you in the getting out of bed and turning over, it's horrible!
  • I did suffer from it since around week 25.  Good news is it went away almost instantly after I gave birth! What a relief! You're in the home stretch, hang in there!! :)
  • I feel ur pain! Im 35 weeks & have been suffering with painful hips since about 25 weeks & over the last 2-3 weeks i've had a reeeeally painful groin & the front of my pelvis kills! I've been walking around with a limp for the last few weeks, it sucks. My midwife said she can refer me to physio but i said to be honest i cant be bothered - i'll just deal with it. This is my second pregnancy, i never had any hip pain in my first. Maybe u should try a pelvic support band. I've heard some women say they help but others have said they dont so maybe worth a try?
  • This is my third pregnancy and my first with SPD.  It sucks really bad some days and then disappears.  It's so darn random.  A support belt helps me a lot on most days that I have a flare up.  There have been 2 days where I literally couldn't walk though.

  • I have had it since about 8 weeks with this one currently 38+5 I also had it with my previous pregnancy at 16 weeks.. I found going to the Physio helps heaps it hurts soo much but feels so much better after and they also give you exercises and stretches to help.. The biggest tip i got was to use a tennis ball put it against a wall and put wherever your sorest against the ball and roll it around with your body pushing against the wall hurts but does help
