Induction stories

being induced on Friday if LO isn't here by then. How was your induction? What methods were used and how long until you were holding your LO? ☺️

Re: Induction stories

  • With my first, it was horrible. I was in labor for 29 hours. I had him 14 years ago though, so I'm not sure what number they started me at, but I remember there being no gradual increase in pain. It was one minute I was fine, the next I was in full blown labor.

I was induced this last Friday with my 4th baby. It was a gradual build up to intense contractions much like going into spontaneous labor. They stopped Pitocin to see if I'd labor on my own. My labor stalled out for a little bit, so we planned to start Pitocin again. Luckily my body kicked into gear and I went back until labor on my own.
Start to finish was 12 hours.

For DS1 I my water broke on it's own.

For DS2, I was induced last week.  For me, it went relatively quickly, but I was already at 4cm when I went in to be induced.    They broke my water at 8am and monitored him for a bit,  then I walked the hallway for a couple hours.  At 11, I was given my first round of Pitocin and the contractions started but were minimal.  THen at 11:30ish, I got the 2nd round, and the contractions kicked in fast and furious.  I was pushing by 1:45 and he was born at 2:20.

So, for me, it wasn't so bad.

  • DS. Pit started at 4, 5 hours later no progress so they broke my water, I was holding him 60 minutes later.
  • Last Tuesday I was 2cm and 70% effaced I went in at 6 am and they started the pitocin at 8:30 after I had my full bag of fluids. I had only dialated to 3 by 11:30. Around 12:30 they broke my water. About an hour later all the nurses came in and started handing me oxygen masks and telling me his heart rate dropped. It turns out I hate dialated to 7 in 30 minutes which is what caused his heart rate to drop. My epidural went awesome and I wasn't feeling the contractions anymore but could still feel my legs. They continued to check me. Around 6:30 they came in and told me his head was right there and it was almost time to push and that they would be right back. By this point my epidural wasn't covering all the pain I could feel his head with every contraction and I was hysterically crying. The anesthesiologist came in and gave me an extra dose of the epidural but it never fully effected the area. My midwife ended up having another patient start to deliver right before me so I had to wait an hour for her to deliver that baby before we could deliever mine. By then I was in so much pain I didn't think I could do it. But once I began to push it helped so much. I pushed for around 20 minutes about 10 pushes and he was out. All in all my labor was 11 hours from when they started the drugs and I was pushing. It would've been a little less had they not had to deliver the other baby! My labor was really not all terrible I expected it to be worse as a first time mom and not very dialated when we began. Even with the epidural not working the entire time he was worth every bit of it! Sorry my story is so long I didn't mean to make it a full birth story I just started typing and couldn't stop. Haha
  • With my first, I was induced over a two day period because I wasn't dilated at all (induced for pre-E). They started pitocin for about 6 hours on day 1. Contractions started, but tapered off when they stopped the meds. On day 2, they started pitocin at 6am, broke my water manually around 10. I got my epidural before noon. Fully dilated by 4pm, pushed for two hours, and DS was born at 6:03pm. Successful induction, but it was long and exhausted. Very thankful for the epidural to let me rest.

With my third baby, I was only dilated "one, maybe two cm, but very high" when I came in for my induction (40w3d). They inserted the cervidil at 10pm and 2am. By 6am, I wasn't dilated any more, but was having irregular contractions on my own. Started a low dose of pitocin at 6, and water broke on its own by 6:30. Contractions got intense, but was able to handle them by bouncing on the birthing ball. Fully dilated by 10am, pushed for 20 minutes, and she was born at 10:20am! Fast and furious baby, no epidural!
  • Induced due to gestational hypertension at 37+3. 10 PM had cervadil, started pitocin 7:30am. contractions picked up and were irregular but intense. Dr. broke water at 1 PM, contractions picked up again. I got epidural by 4 PM, around 8 PM contractions were regular, but too far apart. I had only dilated to 4cm. Baby started to show decelerations so I had a C-section at 10 PM. 24 hours total but in the end I got my gorgeous healthy baby.
