  So this is me being totally clueless... What's the difference between maternity sweaters and normal sweaters?

  They're roomier in the front to accommodate for your belly. Cardigans (sweaters with buttons or zippers down the front) also come in maternity, although if you want to leave them open, I guess that doesn't matter.

  GA Suzuki...the open type cardigans really are no different from normal ones....at least all the ones I ever owned are not!  If they have buttons then they are cut with tummy room but the open  type...no different really.  I actually wear my maternity open sweaters when not pregnant they are that normal
