Two vessel cord

i just had my first trimester screening and they noticed my baby only has two vessel cords. I'm freaking out over it, this is my first baby and I'm just praying everything will be ok. Anyone out there have any advice or had gone through this? Need a bit of encouragement.
Thanks!!

Re: Two vessel cord

  • I don't have any personal experience and I'm sorry you're going through this. This is not totally uncommon and most of these babies go on to be completely healthy. I'm sure your doctor recommended other testing to make sure nothing else is going on with your baby. This is a case where I personally would have additional testing to make sure this is the only anomaly. Please keep us posted and good luck.

  • Thank you for responding!! Yeah, thank god my doctors are amazing and I'm already having many tests done soon, just a bit overwhelming and wish this didn't have to happen
  • My best friend just delivered her daughter this month, she had a two vessel cord. They just did more ultrasounds than normal to keep checking on it, and making sure she was gaining enough weight.
  • My sister just had a baby with only 2 vessels. They did alot of stress tests on the baby & lots of ultrasounds. He was born at 32 weeks due to being in stress. He was breach too so that's why he was so stressed. Very healthy baby boy. As long as you listen to your dr you should be fine!
  • I was born with two vessels in my cord & I'm totally healthy & came out a compleatly healthy baby ! Praying everything goes smoothly !!
  • I have not, but my husband's coworker is delivering a boy in March and they learned there are two vessels. They've had no problems and all is healthy so far. I know they were referred to a specialist for an extra ultrasound.

  • Thanks ladies!
  • My Godson had this.  They had to do u/s often to monitor him, but it never became a problem.  SIL went into spontaneous labor at 39w, he weighed 7lb14oz and was the picture of perfect health.  Now he's a smart, energetic 3 year old :)
  • I was a nursery nurse for 5 years and attended hundreds of deliveries. Many of those deliveries were of babies with 2 vessel cords and all were perfectly healthy! Just follow your OBs instructions and attend all your ultrasounds to monitor growth. Good luck and prayers for a healthy baby!
