Baby clothing detergent

Is it worth it? We are getting ready to start washing DDs clothes for her arrival and I don't know if that detergent is really the best option or if it's just as good to get non scented or mild detergent? I've heard mixed answers from friends so I figured I'd ask you ladies :)

Re: Baby clothing detergent

  • A free and clear detergent is just fine for baby.
  • Loading the player...
  • I use dreft, but I've also used free and clear detergents
  • We are keeping our detergent and if one of the babies has sensitive skin we will change.
  • I used Dreft.
  • If you have a Costco you can get a pretty inexpensive free and clear one there. Draft can get a little pricey. Supposedly the free and clear will do just fine.
  • We used Dreft because we got it as a shower gift. After it ran out, we used our regular detergent and had no issues. Really depends on the sensitivity of the baby though!
  • My sister could only use dreft bc her daughter had a few bad reactions to different brands. I used Tide with my daughter. Worked and smelled good!
  • My mom insisted that I buy a baby detergent ... Once it runs out we're using a free & clear version from Sam's club. I think baby detergent is a waste.
  • For our first we used whatever we had at the time. She has contact dermititus (basically she gets rashes from random things but it's not an allergic react). Detergents never bothered her skin at all.

  • We used dreft with my son, but I'll prob just use the free & clear tide this time. Don't think it's necessary unless your baby has sensitive skin.
  • Test-I just want to see if my posts can still be seen.

    Yup

  • Yes but entire threads can vanish
  • Thank you! I did just notice that about the thread. What is left here if the entertainment gets deleted?
  • Damnit! The sex thread just got deleted.. Bummer.

  • I have a screen shot of the best part...
  • I was really hoping she would come back though.
  • She probably saw it and got all butthurt.
  • It's either getting butthurt by the thread response or just butthurt because you are 36 weeks pregnant and wearing a thong. Or butthurt because she thought she would be safer from labor contractions if she had butt sex instead. Either way, @graciest719‌ I think you're on to something.

  • Now, since they deleted the thread, does that mean that our posts don't count in their activity count? If that's the case I can deal with it.
  • I have extremely sensitive skin when it comes to detergent and we use free and clear on everything. Dreft does contain a chemical for scent and I am not taking the chance on using it. It's really preference I think.
  • Do you guys use dryer sheets, too? I'm using Tide free and clear, which is our normal detergent, but I'm not sure if I should use a dryer sheet. Is there any reason not to? Also, any recommendations on stain remover or pre-treater?

  • @karit3‌ I use wool balls. They are literally balls of wool. You can find them on Amazon.

I've read dryer sheets take away the nonflammable coating on baby clothes? I'm a terrible mom because I washed everything with free & clear dryer sheets. I plan to get wool balls from Amazon as mentioned above -- IDK how important this is, but they do apparently reduce dryer time which in REALLY psyched about!
  • Our pediatrician said any free and clear detergent will do fine.  They also have free and clear fabric softeners.  We buy ours at Sam's Club - it was the cheapest I could find.

I stopped using dryer sheets because they can cause skin irritation as well as damage the dryer lint screen (softener build up). The wool balls are economical, earth friendly, and you can add essential oils with them. As for static cling, I've heard foil balls help, never tried it though.
