Snowstorm

Hey ladies,

I have never actually posted on here, but I needed some support. I live in the Boston area and we are supposed to get 2 feet of snow on Tuesday. I am 37 and half weeks pregnant and work in a rehab hospital so I am considered an essential employee. I am freaking out about having to try to commute to/from work and am making myself sick over it. I am hoping work is understanding and will let me stay home since I live over a half hour away but feel like they might just think I am overreacting.

I would see how comfortable you are after the storm hits. If it really is bad, it's never worth risking your life (and of course now your baby's) over work in my opinion. I live a little further south than New England area but we still get bad weather and roads get really dangerous and icy. My work is a stickler for being there rain snow or shine- but I just don't care. I always attempt to go- but if I feel I'm in danger I am just honest with my boss and turn around. If you don't call in all the time for other reasons I feel like most supervisors are understanding in these situations! Best of luck up there!

I was just curious if you were. I'm a Boston native living in the south now. Your job should understand if things are really that bad that you can't make it in. You have to be the judge of how safe you think the roads are. Personally I would wait and see how bad it gets and go from there. I wouldn't risk anything because it's not worth it to me. But in the end only you can make that call.

I hope everything works out for you. And that everyone up there stays safe through the storm!!

I am in CT and have been having contractions for over a week, with them becoming regular and stronger over last two days (even ended up at the hospital yesterday but cervix wasn't ready so we came back home) AND my husband works for State Department of Transportation so this storm is really going to fuck with us if we are not admitted today or tomorrow. I totally feel your pain concerning this storm. Work should not compare to life!! But the thought of how to make it all work is very stressful. If baby boy is not here by tomorrow evening, I am considering finding a hotel near the hospital! Not that i wouldn't love to have the baby at home, but i wouldn't want to do that because we are snowed in!!

I understand completely! On the western side of MA. So thankful that monday is my last day of work! I would talk to them at work and express your fears. There is a total difference driving in snow and driving in 2 feet of heavy snow, especially with a watermelon between you and the steering wheel. I doubt they will think you are overreacting and would probably prefer that you were at home instead of taking that extra risk. And ditto on the new governor hopefully he'll lock shit down.

I share your fears as well!

I am 38 weeks+ and live in North Jersey where we are expected to get 1-2 feet of snow. I was a blizzard baby as well and was born on a day where we had 20 inches of snow in late March, so I am definitely worried/ gauging the likelihood that we'll have to shovel out and drive to the hospital during the storm. We do live right off the highway though so hopefully that will help some, but hopefully, it won't have to come to that or give birth at home! :x

I agree with PP, if you have to go in, go slowly* and if you feel you're in danger, turn back. Also, have something to add traction in case you get stuck - I keep salt granules in my trunk which actually work pretty well if you shove them up underneath your tires.

*Though don't go too slowly uphill, and for the love of all that's holy, don't stop on a hill if you can help it! I've gotten stuck on the road more than once because someone ahead of me decided to stop on a hill and I had to stop, too.

I live in nh & used to commute to Boston for work. I've traveled to & from in MANY storms (longest bus ride took 7 hours from Boston to Portsmouth). I FEEL YOUR PAIN!! Your employer SHOULD (key term) understand your current situation as well as the "storm of the year" situation and work to guarantee your safety.

I'll be 37 weeks on Thursday. At my last apt my dr said I could go at any time - I'M SCARED SH**LESS!!!! I'll be thinking of everyone & hope if needed be everyone makes it to the hospital safely!!

I'm in southern Jersey and although we're not expecting quite as much snow as you ladies, I'm still pretty nervous. Especially since I'm supposed to have my membranes swept on Tuesday morning at 39 weeks - right in the middle of all this. Not really sure what my OB is going to want to do… This is all very nerve-racking. Stay safe & warm!

I would say do what you feel is safe. If you are not sure how to deal with the snow- let them know. We just had 2 feet here in Colorado but I am pretty used to it and we have plans in place in case we face that kind of weather when it is go time here
