****Been There, Done That Check-in**** 1/20

edited January 2015 in Infertility

Welcome to the Been There, Done That Check-in!!!  Check-ins are every Tuesday. Your check-in leaders are @Carol77B and @zeynsom

This check-in is for anyone who is past their 2nd IVF cycle (including any FETs) or if you have suffered multiple losses. If you have done at least two cycles (even if you didn't make it to ER or ET) this place would be great for you. After multiple failed cycles we aren’t as chipper and full of sunshine like we were during our first or even second cycle. This group is intended to give us a safe place where we can vent, update, obtain info, and bond with other veteran IVFers. If you are currently cycling or waiting on a cycle this group would be a great place for you. You are more than welcome to join the monthly group if you are currently cycling and if you are "hanging onto a dream" feel free to stay with that group, too, you can post both places.  Any questions or concerns just ask!!!

In order for us to keep a running list of all you lovely ladies, please fill us in on where you are in your journey. Please include what cycle number you are in, where you are in the process, and what your plans are for the future.

And because we know that things can be very uncertain early on, we think that our "BFP graduates" should still feel free to participate until they feel comfortable graduating into PAIF.

QOTW: Football was a pretty big deal this weekend at my house! And even though I'm not a fanatic, I'm excited that my hometown team is going back to the Superbowl- Go 'hawks! Do you watch any sports? Do you play any sports? Or what do you like to do instead when others are watching/playing sports?

ADDITIONAL REQUEST: There has been a lot of departures recently on The Bump. Please let us know if you are still part of our group so we can keep an active list. We're going to tag the current "members" and would appreciate you commenting or sending us a message confirming your interest in staying with us.

Hello ladies, I glad I found this group!! I've been a member for a shot period of time. But I always come to the forums on my phone, the site is hard to navigate but I think I found a way to make it easier finally! :) so my quick story is that I just went through my 4 th Ivf. Which failed, I've had pregnancies 2 out of 4 times. Both resulting in miscarriage. We are now at a point where were unsure of what our next move will be. Finances of course are our main concern. I'm define not ready to be done trying to complete our family! So hoping to save up for another round and also find a better doc that can help us with our issues!
Good luck to every no matter where you are in your journey!

Answering the ? I don't mind watching sport my hubby is a crazy hockey fan. I usually only watch if our home teams are playing do I can cheer them on vu yelling at the tv. And telling them how to play! lol!

I had my lining check yesterday and my lining was up to 9.2mm, but my RE wants to get it closer to 10mm so I am continuing the viagra suppositories and vaginal estrace.  My last lining check will be on Thursday (I could have skipped this but I feel like I might as well see this all the way through).  I will start PIO Thursday evening and my transfer will be 1 week from today!  This honestly feels like the never ending cycle.  I started prednisone for my fresh cycle the begining of October and now I am finally getting to transfer January 27th.

We also have solidified my immune protocol after finding out Friday that I lost my IVIG coverage.  I am currently on 20mg of prednisone and did an intralipid infusion with my RE yesterday (RI doesn't prescribe intralipids since she doesn't feel there has been enough proof that it is effective).  I will have blood work tomorrow to check NK and cytokine levels and if all looks good we will wait until after a BFP for a second infusion.  If my numbers are still high we will make a trip to Chicago sometime next week for a second infusion.

QOTD:  I don't mind watching sports, but I don't watch a lot on a regular basis.  My husband is a big football and hockey fan and I can watch both of those.  I also don't mind watching baseball.  I'm not a fan of basketball or soccer.  I played softball growing up and joined my work's slow pitch team.  Between cycling and personal issues with some of the members, I didn't get to play a ton, but it was fun.

    Yay! Congrats @CML11 :)

On Monday my egg donor had her retrieval and we got 23 eggs. The embryologist called today and told us that we have 16 embryos! He is going to call back for an update on Thursday and to set up a time for my ET on Saturday. I start my doxy and medrol today. I started 1cc of PIO Sunday and tomorrow they are upping me to 2cc's. I will also be starting Lovenox injections Saturday.

    Good luck, everyone :)

QOTD: I usually just follow baseball. I am a die hard STL Cardinal fan!!! (as you can see from my profile pic). I do root for the Rams and Packers for football and the Blues for hockey, but I don't really pay attention to those or watch their games.

     All Welcome :)

Welcome @Jammiewantsababy.  So sorry for your multiple losses.  I too have the same experience.

@Twinkie0612 FX things go well at the next lining check.

    @CML11 CONGRATS

@Jetta83306 16 EMBRYOS!!!  I am so happy for you!!!!  OMG…that is great.

@mariana81 I will be starting patches on the 29th and ganirilex the next day.

QOTD:  We are die hard baseball fans also.  We love the Detroit Tigers.  We get MLB package and watch pretty much every game all summer.  We have a TV outside so we can sit outside and watch, so it is kinda like we are at the game.  We do not live in Michigan, so we can’t get to many games.  However we try to go to a couple games every year.  This year we are going to see them in St Louis in May.

Sorry I've been MIA. I always miss the post. @Carol77B can you continue to tag people for the thread. That way we'll know when it's posted.

@Jammiewantsbaby Welcome!! I'm so sorry for your losses!! I hope you and your DH come up with a plan that works for you two.
@Twinkie0612 Hooray!! I'm so happy the viagra suppositories and vaginal estrace are working. Keeping everything crossed for your upcoming transfer!!
    @CML11 Wishing you H&H 9 months.
@Jetta83306 16 embryos is amazing sauce. FX for you this Saturday!!
@mariana81 GL with your upcoming cycle

AFM: IVF #7 ended with nothing to transfer. I had a period two weeks after retrieval and have not had one since. I started getting hot-flashes. Good times. Anyway I went to a RE apt yesterday due to the hot-flashes I've been having and AF MIA. Based on my blood work and u/s my RE thinks I'll start my period in 3 weeks or so. Once AF arrives I will start BCPs. She also said she will talk to the donor coordinator and they will get back to me soon to discuss the timeline for the Double donor IVF anticipated to happen in March.

QOTW: I grew up with sports being a big deal in my childhood home. DH is a fair weather fan, so if his "team" is doing well he'll watch the games otherwise he only watches highlights. Yeah for me!! The only sport I partake in myself is Snowboarding. When I was in my early 20's I worked at resorts, and would snowboard everyday, sadly due to the cost of IF treatments I cannot afford to go. I've been once this season when a friend came into town.  It really makes me sad. Snowboarding is my thing and IF treatments have made it difficult for me to be able to go.

berries555 I guess we will be cycle buddies ;) I will be on estrogen patches on the 29th too.. but my new RE did not include ganirelex this time.. don't know why.. maybe he doesn't want to disturb my body as it doesn't like any medication at all LOL. Good Luck to you!!

Thank you @mm29. I am so sorry for your last cycle. I cannot imagine the disappointment you must be feeling ((hugs)). FX for you with the DE cycle.

Jammiewantsbaby! I've added you to our "team." I just switched to a new RE after my fourth IVF was converted to an IUI and was unsuccessful. I'm feeling very optimistic after meeting with him.

Twinkie0612 you're so close!!! I really hope your levels are good and you don't need another IVIG treatment before transfer!

Super congrats @CML11!!! I'm so happy for you. Please keep us posted!

Jetta83306! I'm so thrilled for you- and your transfer is so close!!! I had terrible bruising with the Lovenox- have you used it before? A tip that was shared with me was to do it as far away from the bellybutton as possible, and that helped me a lot.

mariana81 yay for moving forward in Feb!!! I can't believe that Jan is almost over! Where did the month go?

berries555 I may be on a similar timeline with you and @mariana81!!!

mm29 that's a great idea; I will continue to tag our members.  I'm so, so sorry that IVF#7 was a failure and then your cycle went crazy, that is doubly unfair. I hope you find out the details on the donor IVF soon so you can start planning.  I think it's awesome that you are a snowboarder! My brother did that, but I wasn't allowed because apparently he was expendable to my parents :P I understand about the huge financial impact the treatments have on your life and happiness. The money piece is a huge stress in my marriage and has kept us from doing a lot of things we otherwise would be doing.

    Here's my update!!!

I need to apologize for going AWOL yesterday after posting the thread. I was slammed at work for most of the day and then I couldn't get connected to the Internet. I started developing a conspiracy theory that the North Korean's were attacking our Internet. But it's working fine today!

We are definitely going with the new RE, but it is a LOT more expensive than my old. A single cycle ends up being twice as expensive as at my former, which is really sucky. However, they offer a package for two fresh and as many frozen as I have (I have to do all my FETs before I do the second fresh) for about $20K so I'm planning to go for that. The only worry is that I haven't had any past embryos make it to freeze, but my new RE thinks we can do it; plus, he doesn't want me to do any fresh transfers, so we'll save my "best" embryos for freezing. I'm now debating whether or not I should do CCS. My RE wants me to if I have four or more embryos. The package includes the cost of biopsy and the CCS testing and fees are about $4K (for up to 8 embryos). I'm leaning towards doing it at this point. Plus the place will let me cancel with no penalty if we don't end up with many to test.

I have a cycle review appointment on Monday with a nurse, at which time I should get my full plan from my RE. They'll also test, based on the day of my cycle, to see if I've ovulated, and if I have, I'll start Estrace (which I'm assuming is the same thing I was taking post ET with my previous IVFs?) And if all goes as planned, I should start stimming on day two of my cycle which should be very early Feb!!! I'm actually pretty excited and hopeful about moving forward.

@CML11 Another graduate! Such great news! Congratulations.

@Jetta83306 23 eggs and 16 embryos! That is amazing! Best of luck on Saturday! You are going to have a big family J

@Jammiewantsbaby Welcome to our group! I am sorry that you have a history that brought you to here and hope that your stay is short.

@Twinkie0612 Hope your bloodkit arrived and you sent the blood over to KK. Let us know how your numbers come back. Hope that you won’t need the IVIG next week. Best of luck with your transfer on Tuesday transfer-buddy!

@Carol77B It sounds like a good (and more affordable) plan! And, yes, if I had three or more embryos I would do CCS too. I’d like to know whether it is the embryos or my body preventing me from getting pregnant

@mm29 I am sorry there was no transfer! Double donor sounds like a good plan. Best of luck mm29, you have been through a lot, hope you get your family complete soon

AFM: I had my lining check on Monday. It is 7mm. For some reason my clinic is fine with anything above 6.5mm but I am not, so I asked for vaginal estrace and a neupogen wash. Started the estrace on Monday and will have the wash tomorrow. Starting progesterone tomorrow as well, and my transfer is on Tuesday (if my embryos survive the thaw of course—I only have two and we’ll try to transfer both). On the immune side things have been not very positive. My natural killer cells and cytokines are still elevated despite all the IVIG treatment and prednisone. Dr. KK ordered double IVIG for this week. I had one today and will have one tomorrow. Also increasing the dosage of prednisone to 30mg slowly. I hope that this transfer works!

QOTW: Not a sports fan really. If I have to watch I like college football, basketball, and soccer. Wanted to play tennis after college but I have an eye condition apparently that prevents me from hitting the ball with the racket, I cannot coordinate the racket with the ball

I had my third lining check today, my lining hasn't thickened since monday (still just above 9mm) and now the appearance of the lining is getting worse.  My RE is concerned about it and isn't sure what is going on.  She worries that the longer I am on estrogen, the more likely I will develop fluid in my lining.  I am continuing the estrogen for a few more days and going back in on Saturday for another check.  Right now she is recommending canceling the cycle and starting over again.

Twinkie0612 that is so upsetting and disappointing and unfair. What is up with your lining??? I'm so sorry and so hopeful that there will be a big improvement (minus fluid) on Saturday.

@Twinkie0612 that is crazy! I am so sorry! I do not understand why they are pushing for a thicker lining if it looks good otherwise. I had my lining check today and they did neupogen wash. My lining today was 7.55, thickened only 0.55 since Monday despite vaginal estradiol. However, RE says it looks perfect and is not concerned that it is less than 8mm. See the following study that supports my REs decision. https://www.advancedfertility.com/lining-thickness-egg-donation.htm

I feel like they have been keeping you too long. You started a week before I did and transferring around the same time. If they cancel, which I hope they do not, you may want to discuss the lining issues with them. I never understood why they are pushing for 10mm.

Are you starting on progesterone today?

No I didn't start progesterone, my RE doesn't feel comfortable transferring with my lining looking like it does.  I am staying on estrogen until tomorrow and being rechecked.  More than likely we are scrapping the cycle and starting over in March.  I think my RE was really surprised that this happened.  She's not sure exactly what is going on but said that she thinks we may have just hit the max for my lining.  I think what is stumping her is that my lining always reached 10-11mm during my first 3 IVF cycles, so she was really confident that we could get closer to 10 without risking my lining.  Unfortunately we took the gamble and it looks like it didn't pay off.

@Twinkie0612 I'm really sorry it looks like you'll be cancelled. Just when you and your doctor thought you knew what to expect, this happens! It's so unfair.

Hi all! I'm new to the group but not to the board. With all the departures I lost my home so hopefully you guys will take me in. We are waiting to start IVF #3 in feb/March timeframe. We have SEVERE MFI issues. DH is benched for clomid suplements and weight loss. The 3 month mark will be February and we will do a repeat SA hoping for good results!! Our 1st IVF resulted in 18 eggs retrieved, 12 mature, & 7 fertilized with ICSI. We got 1 embie to transfer on day 6 but BFN. 2nd IVF resulted in 8 eggs retrieved, 6 fertilized with ICSI and nothing to blast or transfer :-( Next cycle will try PICSI & Assisted Hatching. Looking forward to getting to "know" you all!! Fayth.

    Hi @fayth4one,

Welcome to our board. I'll add you to the list. I find it interesting that your DH has been benched, since both of the REs I've worked with have dismissed our SA issues because they can get enough for ICSI/PICSI. I've been concerned about our fert rates (4/7 with IVF #1 and 3/7 with IVF #3) and was trying to push for recommendations for my DH to improve quality, but I couldn't get my original RE to take an interest and haven't bothered to raise it with my new RE since he said he didn't think tehre was a problem since they can get enough for ICSI.

I hope the clomid and weight loss help his count and that the PICSI and Assisted Hatching make a big difference for you. We'll be trying Assisted Hatching with my next IVF, but the new RE doesn't offer PICSI, just ICSI.

@Carol77B‌ Initially our RE wasn't concerned either. Our lowest count has been around 10M with highest at 26M and we have a straw of over 5M stored. He felt like he could absolutely get what he needed for ICSI, however we are very subpar in morphology as well and it became clear after our 2nd round that it's "probably " why our embies Didn't make it. At our WTF I was sure they were going to recommended donor sperm so I was delighted when they gave us some options and time to try them! I'm anxious for the new SA to see what the effect has been. If no change I have a feeling DS may be recommended and I'm not sure where that will leave our journey.....fun times....not :-( I look forward to getting to know you all!
