Baby Names

Weird or unpleasant initials?!

I am having a weird thing keep happening with initials! Our last name starts with a D, and I keep getting all these ugly initials out of names I like...should I even be worrying about this? Lol Really don't want a daughter/son with initials VD, OD, GOD, MAD....I could go on and on.

History: I might be more sensitive to this because my DH family likes to call people by their initials....my DH hates it but he still gets called by his initials at family stuff.

Has anyone else worried about initials?

My son's initials are BJS. I'm not crazy about them, but we liked the names we choose. I've never had anyone comment on them.

  • DS initials are JAP and dad is CAP (still looking for DS2's name).. this was not intentional we just really liked the name combination we chose :)

  • I grew up BS. Middle school was horrid. I'm uber sensitive to initials because of that.
  • I am. I avoid bs, bj, Bo, fu and anything else that potentially means anything. :)
  • Dh's initials are BS and my dad's are MAD...neither one of them ever had even one issue with them in their lives. Unless the initials are KKK or ASS I wouldn't even think about it.
  • Unless it's a curse word, I wouldn't let it bother me. And monograms will have the D in the middle spot. Signed, BJ whose parents often call me that.
  • I thought a lot about this with my LO's name...GAH.  I lucked out with an H last name though, so I can't really say much.  Also, I don't know anyone who goes by their initials outside of High School unless it's ASS or SEX or something...

I thought something was funny this morning and then I saw this thread and figured it was well fitting!

I went to school with a girl whose initials became B.M when she got married. Her husbands are the same initials also. She obviously doesn't know the medical meaning behind the initials. So, she had these big letters "BM" as decor in her house. I always chuckled. Well this morning she posted that she moved the decor into her bathroom.. Yup. The huge BM letters are hanging in her bathroom. I know it won't change her initials but someone should tell her that the bathroom is a bad spot for that decor lol

    Or a fitting spot!
  • Thanks for the posts....I'm still taking initials into consideration ONLY because my DH family seems to use them because they seem to be too lazy to say a full name. Ugh. But if I don't like what they call my baby, I will be vocal about it. They don't get to dictate what my child will be called! Man....really worried about bumping heads on this. Here's to hoping it won't be an issue...
  • Mine are LBS. My brother called me Miss Pounds. Yes, they're important to me.
  • I am with everyone else. I don't really think anything of initials, unless they spell something awful....

Like KKK was used as a suggestion, and my husbands cousin actually has the initials KKK. I am assuming that they thought she would eventually marry and the last name initial would change, but she never did. And now, she has a grand-daughter named Ar.yan. The crazy thing, is that none of them are racist. However, they all get the side-eye from me.

    Anyway, mine are ASK. lol

  • On my BMB someone's asking if there is an issue with her daughters initials being COC, the majority seem to think there's nothing wrong. Personally I would NEVER give my little girl a name with those initials and I am shocked to see so many people say to go for it.
  • Mine is pretty easy but I would worry about it as well. Especially if his family has a history of trying to do that stuff

Omg! That poor little girl! If she can help it, she will keep her middle name TOP SECRET! Lol Little kids can be a******* when it comes to this stuff.

I lucked out, but my sisters before marriage was HMP....hump. Lol yikes.

My DHs initials are STD he hates it!

Oh no!!! Yeah, that's an unfortunate one.
  • My maiden initials were MLF... and I thought it was kinda funny. I was in high school when American Pie helped that acronym take off, but I didn't mind. There are far worse combos out there!
