Low amniotic fluid... who else?

I'm very high risk due to all sorts of different crap, and am therefore monitored more than any pregnant woman should be.  It has pros and cons, but the biggest con is learning every little thing that's wrong.  I loved the happy ignorance I had with DD.  ANYWAY, latest "problem" is amniotic fluid getting lower.  It was 9.9 a week ago and 7.28 yesterday.  5 and below is the "worry zone", but they still told me to be hyper-vigilant about movement and such.  Any decrease in activity equals emergency delivery.  So, that's a fun new thing to have on my shoulders 24/7!  Kick counts all day, every day.  If it's lower next Friday, they'll deliver immediately. I wish they would have just delivered her yesterday.  I'm already paranoid due to my past.  I don't need more things to stress over!

Enough rambling.  Just wondering if anyone else had this issue and what the outcome was.  I've upped my water intake considerably, hoping it will pass to baby.  I've googled and feel okay about things, but I would rather be ignorant again :(

Re: Low amniotic fluid... who else?

  • I was at a 5 at 37 weeks and hydrated and came back an 8 the next day. Earlier I was a 6 and came up to 11 (about 28 weeks or so?). I worried too but everything was fine and made it to my RCS at 39 weeks with no troubles. Keep drinking water and don't drive yourself too nuts with kick counts.
After 2 losses, IVF #2 brought us our little boys.

I'm currently being monitored for this as well. My fluid has fluctuated between 8 and 9 since 28wks and I've been extensively monitored as well. Started weekly NSTs and BPPs since 33wks. Last week my AFI was 7.1 and then on Thurs they got readings from 4.7 - 6.3 and MFM wanted to send me in to take her straight away but the on call ob had me go home and push fluids. Went back yesterday and my AFI was 6.5 but after being sent home by a different on call he decided I may need induced and to come back today to see if I was dilated. Went back today- no dilation and they did another u/s. This on call said it was 11 but I don't buy it. The only pocket I've had for the last few weeks was 6.6 so holding steady.

I totally understand where you are coming from right now. While I keep asking myself why the back and forth I know she's also doing well right now and I guess is comfy in utero.
So big, big hugs to you. This sucks on so many levels and is emotionally exhausting.

ETA: its totally normal for your fluid to decrease at this stage in the game. So maybe that means labor sooner than later?

  • Thank you for the support :)  Yeah.... labor should be any minute honestly.  I'm shocked it hasn't started yet (while I'm sitting here, having moderate contractions 5 min apart).  I had my cervical stitch removed 8 days ago, I'm 3cm dilated, 80% effaced, and baby is in -1 position.  I walked around at 4cm for weeks with my first though, so who knows.  :/
