ALERT: was anyone aware that there is a degree out there to be a "Certified Professional Midwife", differing from a Certified Nurse Midwife. A CPM has NO medical education before their 3 year program that teaches them how to deliver babies via home births. Half of the states are allowing them to deliver babies. Here is one school's rigorous admission requirements:
Application Form
Application Fee ($50)
Essay
Official High School Transcript or Equivalent
College Transcript(s) (if you have attended college)
Birth Doula Training Certificate
3 Letters of Reference/Reference Forms.
This is new to me in the Carolinas. Definitely don't remember anything but CNMs in PA. There are birthing centers in big trouble down here and I wondered why bc the Pittsburgh one that I trained at is wonderful. It's bc they are all CPMs at the birthing centers here and significant bad outcomes are happening!! Buyer beware! Be safe out there mommies and good luck to all!
P.S. My background is that I am a nurse practitioner in the ER. If I didn't know about this, I figured many others wouldn't either.
Re: "Midwives"
I really wanted to give birth in a birthing center with a midwife, but there aren't any birthing centers near me. They're planning to have one open next year so maybe with our next baby.
