I just wanted to take a quick poll of who is comfortable taking Tylenol while pregnant and who isn't? I know most docs say Tylenol is safe for pregnant ladies.

  • Comfortable. I just stick to the dosage they want me to take while pregnant. If the doc gives me the okay I don't worry too much about any medicine.
  • Every morning. I have chronic headaches that I can't take my normal medicine for while pregnant, so Tylenol Extra Strength every morning is what was recommended by my doctor. And I trust my doctor, because that's what I'm paying her to do, is to tell me these things..
  • I suffer migraines and I take Tylenol somewhat often. Tylenol in combination with home remedies is the only way I can get some relief.
  • I was comfortable taking Tylenol, but I tried to limit it to when I had a really bad headache. Before pregnancy I would take it regardless of the severity of headache/other ailment, so I suppose I've been a little more cautious, but not uncomfortable taking it when needed.
  • I trust my doctor who has assured me it is safe to take during pregnancy.
  • I just took one, because my pelvic region is SO. Fucking. Sore.
  • I did SS because I can.

I'd be fine with it but it literally does nothing for me so I'd have to be pretty desperate to actually take it.
  • Haven't taken it because nothing has come up where I've needed it, but I trust my MW when she says it's safe.

  • #3 no vote. To me Tylenol is completely useless so its not worth taking and I'm actually not a fan of taking any medication pregnant or not.
  • I take regular Tylenol for occasional headaches and my OB ok'd me to take Tylenol Cold this week because my head cold is so bad.  If my doc ok's it then I trust her and I take it.

  • Comfortable with taking it, but when I have taken it, it hasn't helped at all.. Can't wait to be able to take ibuprofen again!

  • Thanks for all the replies ladies. It's no secret I try to exhaust all home remedy options before going to medication, but this headache is over the top. Side note, when I'm not pregnant I'm much less hesitant about medication. I spoke with my doc and it's just getting to the point I'm so miserable I decided to take some. I figure if he really is ok with it and so many other women are I feel better about it. This better work though or you will find me huddled in the fetal position rocking back and forth.
  • I'm comfortable taking it but haven't had a need to this pregnancy.
  • I'm comfortable taking it while pregnant. I have a few times when water, rest and caffeine didn't help with a headache.

I do take it when my sciatica gets unbearable and it slightly helps to take the edge off. I try not to take it too often though, not because I'm pregnant (because I do trust my MW when she says it's safe), I have just never been a big medicine taker.

  • I had to take Tylenol because of a bad toothache and finally got my wisdom teeth removed and no longer needed it. I watched how much I was taking.

Doctors have given it the okay for years to pregnant woman for years so I would not blink at taking it every once in awhile.  This said, I became somewhat paranoid about taking it on a frequent basis after reading this study.

  • I said no and I haven't taken it at all during my pregnancy. My doctor actually warned me about it because there was a longterm research study done on Danish mothers where it was found that women who took it had a 40% chance of having a child who ended up with ADHD. You can google it if you want all the details as that's just a brief explanation of their findings. I don't take any medictions while I'm pregnant and just suffered through a really horrible cough/sinus infection that lasted a good three weeks. I would have loved to have knocked myself out with some drugs so I could have gotten some sleep. The things we do for these babies!
  • Here is a link to an article regarding a link between Tylenol during pregnancy and ADHD:

    https://newsroom.ucla.edu/releases/use-of-acetaminophen-during-pregnancy-250121

I think it is important to note at this point, this is only one study, and it still needs further research to actually verify findings.

Also want to note I'm not saying it isn't true, just think there needs to be more research done.

There are so many things in the world or
foods we eat or products we use that all seem to lead to ADHD. I tend to take things like this with a grain of salt..
But that is a whole other argument I won't go into further.
  • My doctor said it was safe to use as long as I follow the recommended dosage. If just the Tylenol doesn't work, I'll add a heating pad and see if that helps. As many of the other ladies said, doctors know what's medically safe.

    I completely agree.

I just get a bit bothered when people post about research or studies and don't add a reference, which is why I posted the link.

People can choose to take Tylenol if they want that is their choice. I choose to follow my doctor's advice like so many people on this board suggest to do, and he is against using it. I realize the findings of this study could use further research but it's an interesting study of more than 64,000 people which is a pretty large group of subjects involved. Since it didn't sound as though anyone knew about this research on the board as nobody posted the information about it I thought it was worth mentioning. In order to make an informed decision I would prefer to be told about any research that shows indications of potential problems than be kept in the dark. Here is another site to look at regarding the study:

    https://www.m.webmd.com/a-to-z-guides/news/20140224/use-of-acetaminophen-in-pregnancy-tied-to-higher-adhd-risk-in-child?page=4

Despite the fact that the women here constantly tell most people to use google to answer many of their questions I don't want to cause anyone else to be bothered by having to google it like I originally suggested. I'll make sure to include links from now on.

It is also true that there are all kinds of things in this world that could possibly lead to ADHD but if I can avoid one of them, why wouldn't I?
  • I normally don't like taking any meds, even Tylenol. Which hasn't been a bad thing because this pregnancy has been full of literal headaches (and some figurative ones as well), and 1 extra strength Tylenol is usually enough to kill it. I didn't take anything my last pregnancy, but this one has been a bitch comparatively.
  • I don't take any meds unless it's an emergency. I just don't think we know enough about the impacts. I drink only 1-2 drinks of caffeine a week too despite doctors saying 1-2 a day is fine. I'm just more conservative during pregnancy than my doctors advise.
  • Comfortable, but have only done it probably twice because tylenol doesn't seem to actually help (specific to headaches).

  • To answer the OP I take Tylenol on a regular basis (only two pills a day though) because I've had a headache for the past month now that won't go away.
  • Those studies don't look totally legit. Also, one of them is from webMD. Tylenol is safe during pregnancy, and it's also safe during infancy. While you should weigh the pros and cons of any medication you take during pregnancy, Tylenol should be harmless. I'm going to have to see a lot more research from reputable sources to back up the statement that it increases your child's odds of ADHD by 40%.

Yes, and the actual study done states further research needs to be done to confirm the results.

If Tylenol actually worked for me, I would continue to take it, if needed.

  • I'm completely comfortable taking Tylenol, but like others it really does nothing for me-specifically for headaches.  The only time it did work was when I was having muscle soreness in my legs a few months ago.

I'm convinced that Tylenol is the worst drug ever made.  I can't even begin to explain how much I miss Ibuprofen!

  • I've never been one to take Tylenol however, after pulling some muscles at work today while sliding on some yogurt, it's all I'm allowed to take so may try it shortly. I'm disappointed to see how many people it doesn't help...*fingers crossed*
