  • My kids have always been in size three the longest. Newborn did not last long, so avoid stocking up on that size.
  • I agree size 3...but buy whatever and you can always exchange the unopened ones for what you need at that time :)
  • Thanks ladies for the advice ;)
  • I have two boxes of newborn and 4 boxes of size 1. A box of 2 and a box of 3.

    You can always exchange too!
  • I didn't buy newborn at all, since size 1 is good for 8-14 lbs, and I'm not expecting a teeny tiny baby. If I'm wrong, I know they give you a package at the hospital and then I can get more from Amazon mom. I also only bought 2 economy size boxes of size 1 because Id rather buy more than have too many.
  • If you but nb I'd only buy one box, neither of my kids were in new born for more than 3 weeks. My friend started all hers in size 1 from the get go! Definitely longest in size 3&4 .
  • Unless the place you are buying has a great return policy you might not want to stock up too much. Different brands work best on different babies since they are different shapes etc. We found that some brands were more prone to blow outs on DD than others but other people would swear by those same brands.

I don't think you ever know what will work until you get there. Same goes for bottles, pacifiers etc.
  • My personal opinion-I would not stock up. You never know what diapers will work best for baby until they are on baby or which ones they might have a reaction to. I would say stick with what you have for now and know that you might not be able to use all the ones you have already bought.

Baby #1: EDD:  5/31/08   DD born sleeping due to severe preeclampsia at 22 weeks 1/26/08
    Baby #2: EDD:  4/28/09   DS#1
    Baby #3: EDD:  5/26/11   DS#2
    Baby #4  EDD:  4/1/2015

  • I would refrain from stocking up until you know what size/shape baby is unless you are one of those woman who understand how to coupon and get them for free in which case I probably would go crazy and donate them if they didn't work.
  • I would stock up on 1, 2, and 3 you really won't need that much of new born specially depending on how big they are at birth. My sisters child was 10 pounds at birth and never even went into new born diapers.

  • If you're not couponing for them, you can purchase a gift card each week and then use them for diapers in the future. I bought a couple of boxes before DD was born, but then went the GC route and it worked great :)

  • Ha. To those saying don't sock up....This is my stock pile with a case of 4 diapers not shown and the smaller packs are a few packs deep on the shelves.

With DD she used 1 case of nb (it was purchased for me you could easily use size 1), 1 case of size 1, A couple size 2 and more as the sizes went up.

The pic is side ways, sorry, but you get the idea.

This was us las time. We haven't started yet because we don't know when she will be here (My EDD is a joke now) and when she will come home/how big she will be when she does. We have a whole plastic storage tub (75qt) of size 2's left over from DS though and a handful of size 3s.
How do you find the natural ones you have stocked up work? Have you tried them on your DD yet of just bought them because they were on sale?
We bought Earth's Best when they were on sale at BRU and we found they sucked absorbency wise. I'm interested in The Honest Company diapers but don't want to spend that much just for a cute pattern ya know?

A lot of these are left overs from DD and some I have added as target or walgreens has had a deal or something. I've never used the honest company diapers but I had a promo code for buy 1 get 1 free bundle so I thought I'd try. I buy cheap diapers. I'm not spending money on stuff my kid is going to crap in and whose pants will cover the diaper.
  • @redneckmomma25‌ With a stockpile like that you must know where to get the deals! What are your secrets? Anyone have any recommendations on how to get what you need as cheap as possible?

With DD I used subscribe and save through Amazon but I am sure there are better ways and that was 4 years ago.

I buy target brand diapers. I normally get them when they have the buy 2 cases get a gift card and there is normally a cart wheel discount.

There are 2 times a year when walgreens has a buy 1 get 1 free on their diapers.

    I don't coupon or anything.
  • I stockpiled with DS and I'm stockpiling this time. I do have a few packs of newborns but I mainly get 1, 2, and 3's. Most of my diapers come from cvs and target.
  • I am an avid couponer and have been stockpiling. I don't like to pay more than .13-.15/diaper. So far I have 4 bags of newborn, 2 bags of size 1, two value size boxes of size 1, two bags of size 2, and four value size boxes of size 2. I have both huggies and pampers since I won't know which one works for the baby until he gets here. I have my receipts so I can exchange. My first was in newborn diapers for over a month. We were told not to buy any but boy were we kicking ourselves when my daughter came home at 6lb5oz and 21.5in long. Her little butt was scrawny for a long time!

You still didn't need NB. My preemie was in size 1s from the start and he was smaller than that. Just letting you know.

ETA: And by smaller than that I mean even when he dropped down to 4lbs 8ozs he was still in size 1s.

My daughter would constantly blow out of size 1's. Each baby is different.

  • Any Costco shoppers? I'm curious if their diaper prices are better or in line with target.
  • I was planning to use Pampers Swaddlers for the first few months (I like the colored bar that shows you if it's wet), and then switch to Target (since it's easier to tell if a diaper is wet on a larger baby that pees more) brand. I had heard lots of parents love Target brand but I also read recently that they changed them. :( I'm hoping the wave of recent negative reviews on the new diapers encourages Target to return to the old diapers.
  • A lot of places will allow you to exchange sizes later if you need as long as the box isn't opened.
  • Both my boys started off in preemie size diapers, and they each wore newborn over a month. They both sent a long time in size 1 and went through 2 and 3 fast. . I am basing my stock on how they were for baby girl. I figure if I need to exchange some I can. You can stock up on wipes too.
