Moving at 36 weeks!

We are moving tomorrow. I'll also be 36 weeks tomorrow. I know some ladies on here have moved throughout our time together here. Has anyone moved this far into pregnancy? DH has lots of friends helping but I still feel useless. I have packed some stuff but DH has done the majority of the work. I like to take charge during times like this and do my "share" of helping. I bought the guys beer for afterward and got the weirdest looks lol. I guess I'll just have to sit back, relax, drink my water and watch everyone else do the work.

*not even sure the point in this post. I guess just hoping someone out there can relate.

Re: Moving at 36 weeks!

  • @seamonster‌ that is what I was thinking! I'll just tell everyone where to put furniture etc. Luckily DH packed the majority of everything, so it definitely should go smooth. I'm probably stressing over nothing. We had to move. I refused to renew our lease. Management sucks and would never fix anything for us. Neighbors party ALL the time. I figured it would be worth it in the end. Fingers crossed!

  • Ugh, I feel for you.  DH and I moved twice - TWICE - in third tri.  We bought a house and had to move from our apt into the garage apt in our new house while renovations were completed, then from the garage apt (so stairs, yay!) to the actual house.  Which was a bigger deal than it sounds like.  Of course, like you said, no heavy lifting for me, which made the whole thing even more stressful because it takes longer to pack, unpack, get settled.  We still aren't settled. Good luck, and it'll be ok!  Just do what you can do.

  • We sold, bought, and moved since being pregnant. We are still unpacking and painting and no where near done before babies get here! I couldn't imagine moving now, but I wanted to wish you luck!

  • We moved when I was around 30 weeks. Despite being told to not help, I couldn't help myself. I paid for it with horrible sciatic pain and pelvic pain. Just listen when people tell you not to help. Learn your lesson from my experience haha. My husband just wasn't doing it right though! Somebody had to do something about that...
  • We moved at 28-29 weeks. There will be a handful of things you can help with -- but leave the heavy and hard stuff to husband and friends. I also took frequent breaks because I wore out much quicker than I was used to. But you'll be surprised to see there are certain things you'll be ok doing -- just take your time. Like making the beds, unpacking the linen closest, etc. And if you've had enough, sit back and direct all the action. You're allowed. :)
  • I moved cities 4 days before I had my first (3 days before due date). It was a ridiculous situation but in the end everything worked out. Just give yourself permission to laugh when you feel out of control and think about how it'll be a funny story to tell your LO in a few years.
  • We moved into a new home to make room for a future baby that we didn't know we already had. I found out three days after moving that I was expecting my LO. I couldn't shake the guilt of the lifting and moving around that I did! I think you need to get a pointer stick and show your helpers who is boss - haha. After all, you already did the hard work of being the pregnant woman buying a case of beer!

  • If feels like a million years ago now, but when I was pregnant with my first we moved when I was about 34/35 weeks. It was a multi step process, because we have been staying with my husband's parents since our wedding (while we were house-hunting). So I had a lot of shower gifts and temporary things there, and then we had a storage locker from his apartment, and I had things stored at my parents house from when I lived there while not traveling for work. All and all three different states were involved. Anyways, I did stay away from all the heavy lifting, but I was the point person for directing, errands, snacks, supplies, and cleaning. Once all the actual boxes are in, I kept busy w the light weight stuff (unpacking linens and things) and when we had a painting party, I kept everything moving by cleaning all the brushes and making sure everyone could focus on the work (& eating and drinking!). It worked out okay in the end, we ended up needing a lot of help, but fortunately both my husband and I come from big families so we just called in the troops.

Good luck! I'm sure it will all be worth it in the end!
  • I moved at 35 weeks mostly a lot of trips back and forth since it was about 40 minutes away. I was terrible and could not stand by and watch. Did a little more than I should have. It was extremely stressful until my boxes were unpacked and the baby's things were in place! I really hope the move is not bad for you! I'm glad you got movers!!!! Hopefully that took a lot of the stress and worry out of it :)
