goopy eye

so LO had a sort of blood shot eye this morning. We had his 9 month appointment today and the doc said it looked like a popped blood vessel and nothing to worry about. So it gradually got worse today, and he woke up 2 hours after bedtime (which he never does) with a goopy eye...yuck. I'll call the doc tomorrow, but in the meantime is there anything I can put on it to make it feel better? Would breastmilk help, or did I make it up that could be ok?
