Subchorionic Hematoma at 9wks?!

im 9wks 5 days and we had our first apt monday. We had an ultrasound to make sure baby was growing good and saw the heartbeat (179). They called me with the ultrasound results and said I have a small SCH. She said it is "outside of the uterus" and measures 1.4x0.8cm. She said that normally it is just re absorbed into the body but just make sure to call if I have any bleeding. I haven't had any, thank goodness, but wondering if any of you have had any experience with SCH?? Is the size of mine small? Should I be as worried as I am? I'm trying now to stress out but when your pregnant and you hear "bleeding" you can't really do anything but stess. :(

  • I have one too, but substantially larger. What you have would be considered small. My doctor is also expecting it to be reabsorbed, but is doing an ultrasound at 12weeks just to be sure since mine is more like medium sized.

  • I had one similar in size to yours at 7 weeks. I went in for my regular 12 week appointment with my doctor today and asked about it. She said that with it being that small, she only expected for me to see a small amount of brown discharge (which I never saw!) and at this point, it was likely to have already been absorbed. I was freaking out when I first found out too but given that it was so small, I felt a lot better. AND she was not the least bit worried. I adore my doctor and completely trust her so it was a relief to hear. Good luck!
  • I was diagnosed with one at 5 weeks and 3 days back in December and bled for over 5 weeks. It was never bright red and I can't remember the size. The bleeding stopped about 12 days ago and I heard the heartbeat yesterday so I believe it reabsorbed.
  • I'm currently experiencing the same issue, small sch and have been having light brown spotting/discharge on and off for about 2 weeks. The dr and ultrasound tech explained that as long as the bleeding isn't bright red it is "old blood" from the sch (which means that the sch was probably a leftover implantation bleed and it's actively bleeding) and isn't a cause for concern and that over 50% of pregnancies have an sch, but often they aren't detected. . I was advised to take it easy, no heavy lifting and pelvic rest. Oh, I'm currently about 9 weeks along.
  • Well so far no bleeding at all and no pain or anything. So I'm taking that as a good sign... I asked if we would keep an eye on it but she seemed not to be worried about it and just said to call if there is any bleeding. So I assume we will find out at my next ultrasound at 20wks.... So so far away. :(
  • Isnt* actively bleeding
  • I'm wondering if excercise is still ok or if I should stop. I do the elliptical for about 30 min and not very hard at all. Also Wondering if intercourse is ok. Silly question but it's like I hear this and everything starts running through my mind :(
  • I did have slight brown discharge at about 4 weeks for a couple hours one day but that was it. Wondering if that has anything to do with this SCH
  • I had a small sch that was found a few weeks back. At an ultrasound a couple of weeks later, they couldn't even find where it had been. It was totally gone, with zero complications.
  • I was told to refrain from anything that would increase my heart rate. ..so no exercise and pelvic rest until the spotting has stopped completely for 4 weeks, so no intercourse. The recommendation might be different if you haven't experienced any spotting. Although, I've only had very light, brownish discharge, no "real" bleeding

At 8 weeks my OB noticed the same thing. She is not concerned at all about and said it would probably be reabsorbed in time. I don't see her until I'm 12 weeks so I guess she REALLY isn't concerned. On a separate ER visit, I was advised to go on pelvic rest because of the SCH. My husband and I are waiting to do anything until my next appointment due to some other pains being experienced in addition.
  • That's good to know ladies! I'm sure if I needed to refrain from anything she would have said something right?
  • I would think so....but I would call and ask your Dr's nurse to double check with your physician to be sure you don't have any restrictions.
  • I found out I had a SCH at my 7 week appointment. I just took it easy, no working out, and had my 12 week ultrasound this week. They said my SCH was reabsorbed! Such a relief. I wouldn't stress if you aren't bleeding. Easier said than done though, I know.
  • I had a very small sch as well which got slightly bigger from my 6th week to my 10th week. Doctor said I was being too active and to refrain from any heavy lifting and no intercourse for two weeks. Ugh! When I went back this past Monday for my 12 week appointment the sch had disappeared and I could resume my usual fitness (and bedroom) regimes. Thankfully! I've heard that they can sometimes take up to the 20th week to heal though, so I consider myself lucky.
  • Gosh... I think I'll call and ask. But I feel like she's just going to say no restrictions but call if I start bleeding. That's frustrating! I don't want help when it's too late! I want help now and I want to know what I need to do to make this go away. :/ I'll give it shot anyway..
  • I had one this pregnancy and I had heavy spotting and cramps.  I'm O-  and needed a Rhogam shot; my RE put my on Progesterone injections as well.  At my last appointment on Wednesday, it looked much better.  Hopefully yours will look better at your next appointment. Good luck.

  • Are there any ladies out there finding out they had a SCH later on? I had an ultrasound at 6 and 11 weeks and nothing was detected.. But went in yesterday at 17 weeks and told doctor about some spotting I was having and she pulled an US machine in right away. My SCH is about 10cm/1-2 CM ...was put on strict no exercise/ no intercourse. It worries me finding out later in the game. Although reassuring to hear you ladies say that some have been reabsorbed.
  • At my first appointment the doctor found a small SCH. By my second appointment it had been reabsorbed. Don't stress, but do take it easy & enjoy kicking back for a bit.
  • MrsMenneals my sch was/is small.  It was found at dating U/S around 8 weeks.  It was still there at my 11 week U/S.  Stick to your restrictions, don't lift anything over 10 lbs, no sex etc..and hopefully all will resolve.  I wish you the best of luck.  Did doc schedule you for a follow up U/S to keep an eye on it?

  • Yes, well my 20 week US is only three weeks from now, so that's when we're suppose to reevaluate. I know I shouldn't worry, but having looked up SCHs, I can't help but feel like I have some sort of ticking time bomb inside me.. One false move and boom. :/
  • I am glad you are having a follow-up soon, it is good for them to keep an eye on it.  It is good too that they didn't feel the need to look sooner than your 20 week A/S.  Don't feel bad for worrying, I did and then started trying to play a blame game with myself (ex: did I lift something too heavy, have I had too much caffeine this pregnancy etc..).  A lot of women have them and most have no idea why they have them.  Worrying about our babies is natural, it is instinctive to want to protect our LO's.   Just be gentle with yourself and put your physical health above everything else.  I will keep my FXFY that everything will be just fine and reabsorb!

  • I'm in the same boat. I've actually got two small hematoma's. Been on pelvic rest since week 9, I'm 16 weeks now. Won't know if they are bigger, smaller, or gone until 20 week scan. I'm just staying positive. I try to take it easy but I've got a 4 year old and an 18 month old and a husband who works nights so I'm alone with the girls a lot and sometimes I have to pick them up. Just do what you can and try not to stress. I hope everything works out for you!!!
