  I am deeply confused at what XO is attempting to do here. It's like they are attempting to burn their house down because they saw a mouse.
  
  The only explanation I can think of is that they are planning on selling the company and don't give two shits about continuing liability or public image.

  HIGHLY likely. It's the only plausible explanation at the moment. They would need full control of the content.
