soo its been decided by my doc... scheduled for next week and im very nervous; what should I expect? do i take the same things as I would a vaginal? any advice or recommendations?
I think maybe theyve told me a lot of info for that day but all my nerves block a lot of things and sometimes others experiences help you feel more comfortable :-SS
I've had two csections and will be having my third in jan 30. No need to be nervous.
You'll go in. They will hook you up to IV and a catheter. You'll go to the operating room where they will do your spinal. You'll get oxygen and they will do your csection and then you'll head over to recovery for an hour or so and then to your room. Baby will be with you the whole time unless they need some special care.
Around 5-6 hours after they will most likely get you up and remove your catheter. You'll have your IV until your antibiotics are finished and then it will come out.
A word of advice. Get up and move as much as possible. The more you sit the worse it will be. I just took regular Tylenol every four hours at the hospital and nothing at home and was fine. Everyone is different though. Just move but don't overdue it.
As for what to bring just bring the same for regular labour recovery. Just enough things for four days there. Try to have clothes and underwear that won't rub on your incision.
Mine was a little different. When I went in they hooked me up to IV's and gave me two bags of fluid then had me use the restroom, then we went to the or, they did my epidural and then placed the catheter. I didn't get any oxygen though. After they got my baby out they put her over the curtain for a second, DH cut her cord, then they went to the nursery for tests and bath.
I had to recover for an hour in the same place I got the fluids, the morphine made me itchy so if it does the same to you ask them for a washcloth, it's amazing.
They took my to my pp room and put these things on my legs that massaged them for over 12 hours before they let me try to walk, they didn't take out the catheter until the second day in. I would also suggest walking as much as you can. Definitely ask for stool softeners, and take the meds as prescribed, I needed them for about a week and a half. Also for the ride home a pillow over your incision does wonders. Also ask for a binder at the hospital, it makes you feel so much better.
I wasn't allowed to change out of the hospital gown, and they had special underwear I was supposed to wear also so I didn't get to use any of the clothes I brought until we were discharged. I didn't know this when I had mine but you will still bleed for a few weeks afterwards just like with a vaginal delivery.
Good luck! I am also having my CSection on Jan 28th. You will go in (dont eat or drink anything 12 hours before surgery). They will put you in a triage room, you will meet with dr and the Anesthesiologist and discuss the process. Nurse will put an IV in for you, then you will use the bathroom. They will take you back to the OR, give you spinal, lay you on table, put in catheter, cut you open - 10 mins later you will have a baby, 30-40 mins after that you will be moved over to recovery. Its a common procedure so dont get too nervous (I know easier said than done!)
Take lots of stool softners and take as many of the hospital panties as you can get your hands on!!

My hospital only has one csection surgery room and one recovery room so I have had my own room for that part.
After the one hour recovery and you are moved to your own room you get what you've chosen. I live in Canada so the ward room (4 ppl) is free and many people's insurance from their work covers semi private rooms.
I'm paying the $25/ day and getting a private room for the 3-4 days I'll be there.
I only asked because when i had my first child (9 yrs ago) it was vaginal and the birth was done in the same room and I stayed in that room for the 2 days but it was private... I was not sure how it worked with a csection, if its an op room and then you go off somewhere for the rest of them time guess i was curious to know how it worked.
