  We usually do email invites for birthday parties with our families, but since this is a special occasion, I'm going to send invitations, probably 3'ish weeks before.

  we are doing formal invites and trying to get them out in the next week or so since some grandparents have to travel

  I will be handmaking invitations (normal for me to do when I host events) and sending them in March, but it's pretty much family only so everyone will know the date anyway.

  With the list we quickly made over the weekend, we'll be sending out 20 invites (40 people total). My MIL is making the invites and we will send them out in mid-February. We have family that will possibly want to travel and a few friends who live far enough away that some notice would be appreciated.

  Thanks everyone! I wanted to send out formal invites, just wanted to make sure it wasn't "too much" for a first birthday!
