I hope I don't get flamed for asking this, but I've been with the Bump for years, but really don't pay much attention to the politics of the site/forums. I am confused (as I have obviously missed something) what everyone is up in arms about. I've heard there are new (paid) MODs, but I can't figure out why this is an issue. I also understand some ladies have been banned. I missed out on the reasoning for this, as well. It's sad to see so many people leaving. I may check out the "other side" (when I figure out what that is, lol), but still plan to stick with The Bump, as I don't like change much.
Re: Serious Question.....
Please do not accuse me of not being part of the community because if you search my past discussions, I have most definitely been an active member. I understand it's all over the board, but I honestly don't understand what/or why all of this happened. Like I said, it makes me sad to see so many ladies leaving (by choice or not), I think the majority of you have been VERY supportive to one another.
BFP #1: 11 October 2014
EDD: 22 June 2015 -- updated DD: 20 June 2015
Here's the gist:
The CEO of the TB stepped down in December. During that time period, there was discussion about rolling out some new Terms of Use for the members of The Bump as a response to some bad app ratings since the app rolled out in July 2014. These discussions were occuring on the Moderator board.
Many of the moderators told the current Bump administrators the new TOU weren't a great idea, talked about how the community was, advertising revenue, things like that. These moderators are women who have been with the bump for years, volunteering their services.
A couple of weeks ago, the new "TOU" rolled out, except there was a disclaimer that they weren't actually new TOU. Just guidelines and reminders to play nice. There was no change to the current TOU. At the same time, any moderator who had said anything negative on the moderator only board were banned. No warnings were given. No violations of anything. Other long term members were banned without warnings or explanations as to why their accounts were deactivated.
Obviously members were upset about this. It was deceitful and short sighted. They asked to have their accounts deleted. TB wouldn't delete the accounts. They ignored the requests. So these members started posting inflammatory things in the hopes they would be banned.
TB jumped on these later bannings and started issuing statements about how everyone was banned because of the inflammatory posts - even though they started after the first round of mass bannings. It was a lie. Everyone knew it was a lie except some special snowflakes who aren't members of the site and don't know any better.
The moderators who weren't banned and stayed were still part of discussions with the administration. They helped to draft an apology letter to the community about the insanity that has been going on since the bannings. But instead of issuing the apology, yesterday TB posted that all moderators have been relieved of their duties and were being replaced. Most of the moderators weren't even told this. They found out through the post. These are women who stucked with the current administration even after the banning. Who helped to try to reign in the chaos. Who had volunteered hours and years of their life to volunteering as moderators.
So for every pretty pretty princess who thinks this is about being able to swear, or be mean, or whatever it is you think this is about, it's not. The Terms of Use never changed. No one was banned for being snarky or honest or answering dumb questions with Gifs. People were banned out of nowhere, for no reason. People who played nicely and by the rules had the rug yanked out from under them. THAT'S why people are upset. And, those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.
Finchfeeder80 for the win!!
Sorry, had to repost because my first one didnt quote. Either way... BOOM!!!
Stupid Bump Quote Box Fail
That's what I was thinking...
And if that happened to you, unfortunately, no one would care. Because you're new and haven't participated. And of course, its not a crime to lurk and watch, but you don't build a community that way. The outcry came because these were active posters who were part of the community. It's like watching the police come and drag your neighbor away. People did care about them. And people reacted as decent humans do- speak up when there is injustice.
Your post gives TB a pat on the back for their behavior. It's saying that that's okay. That if they choose to ban you because "On Thursdays we ban everyone with a "Knottie" screen name because that will be fun and confusing" that you deserve that. You don't. No one does. So you can love this new "community" as much as you like, but don't get attached to it, because you could be kicked out for no reason at any time. But again, you seem to think that's A-OK, so you can't love this place all that much.
Good luck when there is no one left to speak for you, support you, or take your side.
