Beans

I have read about some people giving their baby beans, so I thought I would add it to her growing list of finger foods. Canned? Dried? What kind of beans do recommend? Do you just rinse them off and feed it to them right from the can or do you heat them up first?

Re: Beans

  • I give them rinsed out of the can or in soup/quesadillas/rice/eggs. Even my 4 and 2 year olds love plain rinsed black beans from the can. It's a great way to add a little protein to a meal.

FFMC I've given LO refried beans at our local Mexican joint.

I hope that's not flammable.... I do this too.

He seems to love all beans- baked beans, plain black beans, or refried beans. Kills me because I hate beans!

  • I just bought an assortment of dried beans to make for DS. I've given him black and refried, too. He loves them.
  • We don't eat a lot of meat so we eat a lot of beans. I hate canned food so I soak and cook dried ones with herbs for everyone.
  • she hoovers beans.  all kinds.  we do canned beans, rinsed and plain.  i don't heat them up...  just rinse and dump on the tray.  homegirl got 7 layer dip tonight!  granted, it was basically all beans, guac and some sour cream, but she LOVED it.  no regrets!
  • okay, so probably a dumb question. Beans aren't a choking hazard?

  • she's never come close to choking on them.  the canned kind are very mushy, so even a toothless jaw can mash them quite quickly and easily.
  • Every kind of beans. She loves them. She had baked beans from Famous Dave's a week or so ago, but at home we usually do black beans

DS has beans all the time and he's never choked (knock on wood). For some reason he "gets" that he needs to chew these (2 bottom teeth)

  • This is great!  I haven't tried beans yet, but I have yet to find a food she doesn't like.  Looking forward to adding beans to her meals!
