Replacing the night nursing

So my little girl is 15 months old and we are in the process of weaning. I think I am down to just 1 feeding right before bed. (I say I think since the middle of the night weaning just started this weekend and seems to be working). Would I replace the bedtime nursing with a bottle of whole milk? Or does she not need any milk right before bed? I should have asked the doctor when we were at her appointment but I forgot.

I should also mention that she isn't a fan of regular milk and at daycare they need to warm the bottle before she will take it. I try to give her the milk in a sippy cup but she doesn't want anything to do with it when I am around.

Re: Replacing the night nursing

  • she doesn't really need the milk right before bed... that said, it it makes the bedtime routine easier as a BM substitute, you might want to give it to her for a while. or, if you think she honestly gets hungry in the middle of the night, you could give it to her, or offer her another small snack with protein right before bed. you should make sure to brush her teeth afterwards, though.

have you tried alternative milks for daycare? honestly, she doesn't need milk at all, per se, just so long as she is eating a balanced diet with other sources of calcium. if you could find a non-dairy milk (coconut, almond) or a different dairy product she enjoys (yogurt, cheese), just make sure she gets some of those regularly and send her to DC with water to drink.

  • She likes cheese, yogurt etc. it's just plain cold milk she doesn't like. Maybe I will try to warm milk in a sippy cup before bed just to transition for a bit. I just need to make sure we are over waking up 3 + time in the middle of the night to nurse before I fully drop all nursing
