Convertible Carseat reccommendations

DD is almost one and we are starting to shop around for convertible carseats. Do any of you moms have any reccomendations on some great seats for great prices?

  • We have a mazda 3, my daughter is pretty little (17 pounds, 28 inches tall) she will be one in december, and she will rear face probably until she is 2.

  • We use the Chicco nextfit. It fits in my car (SUV), in my husband's truck, and in my mother in law's crossover type car. We really like it. And so does my son. My son will be one in December as well (the 30th) but he's already 25 lbs.
  • DD will be 1 next month and she has been in a convertible seat for a few months already.  She is 22 lbs and 30.5" .  We have a Maxi Cosi Pria 85 and the Chicco NextFit.  The Chicco is definitely smaller which would be good for a Mazda 3.  I actually think she prefers the Chicco as well because she doesn't fuss as much when she's in that seat.

  • I love our Britax Roundabout 55. So easy to install and adjust and very comfortable. We also have a Costco one that works really great too.
  • @kelly136 Do you mean Cosco?  Which seat, out of curiosity?  The Britax Roundabout 55 is a very short lived seat.  Is your little short, tall, average?

  • We are currently replacing our britax seats with radians. If you think you'll ever need 3 across that's the way to go.

  • We have the Britax Click tight Marathon seats and I love them. We only have two at the moment for our twins so when we have to switch them between my husbands car and mine it is super easy to install them. They also have a angle adjust built into them that is really nice.
Only things is that the seat material doesn't come off to wash so it is a little difficult to clean when something happens but I still would have bought them.
Might just buy a seat protector in case something happens again to make it an easier clean up.

The cover does come off, it's hand wash only.

  • We also have the Britax marathon. Easy to install, the fabric is very soft and my 10 month old looks much more comfortable in it. We bought it as a transition from the b safe infant seat and I am very pleased. The only downside is that it is heavy so if you're planning to move it often be prepared. It will take a little getting used to the new straps and where to pull to releas and tighten the harness but I love Britax products and I would not choose another brand. Every day I thank Britax for making an easy to install, SAFE, high quality car seat! Had great reviews on Amazon https://amzn.to/1vH0lDJ
  • All car seats are safe when used properly - that is the #1 most important thing, that everyone read the manual and make sure they're using their seat properly :)

  • We love our britax marathon. Out 10 month old had been in it since about 5 months. It was great for her reflux. She seems comfy in it. She is 22 pounds 29 inches. It fits well in our small 2 door sports car.
  • We were given a front facing car seat as a gift for 22-100 lbs.  It does not rear face, he will be out of his bucket seat within a month. Should we purchase an additional seat that rear faces and have this other one as a spare and when he is two?  He will only be 1 next month.  I assume it is fine for a 1 year old to be front facing...just not recommended.

Is there any way you could exchange it for a convertible car seat that goes both front and rear facing? Many stores will exchange even without a receipt.
  • I am ready to bid farewell to the TB but wanted to touch base here quickly.  It is not necessarily legal to forward face at 1.  Assuming the state is proper use, it means you must follow the requirements of the seat (which this one clearly states is 22 pounds in addition to 1 year old and may even have a height requirement).  Here's a great link to why rear facing is so important.  Come join us on Car Seats for the Littles!
