I'd say if you didn't go into labor after trying it, then your little bundle of joy isn't ready yet! I don't think I'd try again without asking my doctor first.
I'm 38w 6d due on jan 30. My doc suggests that if I don't go in labour in a few days I should start castor oil. Has anyone gone in labour consuming castor oil?
I'm due on the same day, January 30th and as much as I want to meet my baby girl.. I'm just waiting it out! She will come when she is ready. No need to put your body/baby through stuff if she isn't ready to come yet. Castor oil will only make you go into labor, if your body/baby are absolutely ready to come otherwise it will just cause some contractions and diarrhea and if you don't drink enough fluids dehydration! So be careful!(:
Why not try spicy food, sex, acupuncture, or go for a short walk...? There's so many more pleasant things you can try (/keep trying). Your asshole will thank you. Acupuncture put me into labour within about five hours.
Some say spicy food!!! Go get some spicy Thai or curry and tums lol. Also if you like pineapple. Then tickle your nips. These are all way more fun than castor oil!!! I tried castor oil on my due date last pregnancy and nothing happened. It worked when I tried it at 40 +4 though. I would only try it if your doc says it's okay and you are over due and you've tried everything else.

Ha, I totally just ate half a pineapple and did nipple stimulation. What can I say, I'm pretty desperate :S
I have been eating spicy food for days. And DTD once more. Walking tomorrow. I don't think I'd try castor oil even night before an induction. Prim rose oil, I might try with doctor approval. FX I won't have to go that far though. Oh and I found a link for acupressure to help start labor and once it's started alleviate discomfort: which the link totally no longer works (maybe it will for you?). Wow, guess that's what I get for not DLing the pdf. Sorry
I could definitely eat that many pineapples... Except I'd never be able to eat anything after that my mouth would be so terribly sore afterwards. It would be like Iron Chef: Pineapple! Could you imagine?? Yummy
I tried Castor Oil this morning at about 11.30 and I'm waiting for results. Have had funny feeling in tummy. I'm just hoping it works. I'm 39+4 and I'm willing to try anything right now (
I took castor oil the day I went into labor. Took 2 tbsp at 11:30 am. Pooping myself didn't kick in until about 3:00. Went for a long walk around 6:30 pm and stayed very hydrated. Went to bed and contractions started around 11:30 pm. Went to l&d at 1 am. Water broke at 1:20. Was 5 cm when I showed up and 8 cm within 1.5 hours. Barely had time to get epidural but did at last minute. Sat at 10 cm for a few hours (everyone napped but me!) then pushed for 2.5 hours and baby was born. I think castor oil only works if your body is ready. Also, our reasoning was thinking it would be good to be cleaned out before going Into labor if it failed, isn't the worst thing so gave it a shot! I had been having BH for weeks leading up and knew I was 75% effaced and 1 cm dialated at the time.
I took 1tbsp of castor oil at 8pm at the recommendation of my doctor at 39+5. It didn't taste that bad in Orange juice, and I had a decent BM (sorry tmi) around 10-11pm and my belly was upset so I took a bath. I got out and tried to go to bed, and the contractions started- fast and hard. I got up after a few minutes thinking I had to take another BM but couldn't, ended up crying for DH on the bathroom floor. He knew something was wrong so he put me in the car and rushed to the hospital- 2hrs away. By the time I got to the hospital I was having intense contractions every 1 minute and back labor. They monitored me and baby for a few hours and checked me, but no change in my cervix. They offered me a morphine shot in my leg which I rejected, and sent me home. We made it outside (sobbing in pain the entire way) to our car. Once in the car I begged DH to call my mom and ask her what to do. On the phone call, my pain intensified and I started vomiting. I felt like my cervix and uterus were ripping apart. He brought me back up to l&d and I was screaming in agony. They put the morphone shot in my leg and sent me home. Castor oil might work for some, but be very careful. I took a small dose and remained hydrated the whole time, and felt like I was gonna die. It all depends how sensitive your body is, and be prepared to feel the most extreme sense of guilt if anything goes slightly awry.
