Sciatica Pain

Hi ladies!
My new symptoms seem endless lately as a first timer at 24 weeks. Thanks for all your feedback. Last night after working all day at the computer I stood up to feel a searing pain in my left buttocks. Through the night standing and sitting brought me to tears with this pain. Having herniated discs I'm sure doesn't help. But this was unbearable! I understand it to be sciatica. Anyone experience this or have any remedies for pain relief? I'm doing the norm. Heat. Laying on opposite side. But I do need to sit and stand like a human again soon! lol
Thx
Mel

Re: Sciatica Pain

  • I experience this, I've noticed that stretching helps, my OB also taught me how to "properly" get up from a lying position, and putting pillows behind my back, front and between my legs REALLY helps a lot. Other than that, just moving really slow and making sure I sit properly.

  • Thank you!!
  • I just asked my midwife about this today - she says it's just one of those pregnancy things, move slowly, get up carefully and take paracetamol if very bad :)

Mine was BAD with baby #2.

I asked my doc...she said I could try physical therapy.

There aren't any good meds for nerve pain while pregnant or nursing (that's what my doc said...) - but Tylenol took the edge off some.

Thankfully - it was completely resolved by 4 days post delivery of my 11 pounder.

  • Wow!! 11 lbs!!!
Congrats and thanks for the feedback. I feel like all I do is complain lol rare days when I just feel good. And I'm not close to the finish line. I wonder if it's due to age at this point. I'm 39.
My boyfriend, though is here for me, doesn't know what to do with me lol

  • I have severe sciatic pain even when not pregnant. Physical Therapy is my only saving grace. Or, check with a chiropractor who is certified in ART. It works wonders. With that being said, I really need to make an appointment because I couldn't even walk yesterday because of the pain :(

    Here is some information: https://www.activerelease.com/

  • I spent a long time on my feet in the kitchen yesterday and I'm pretty sure that is the culprit for me (I get sciatic pain that comes and goes)...

I'm a yoga teacher so I try and do some stretching, and then today when I was at the office I sat on a balance ball for a while and rotated my hips from side to side and that helps loosen things up. For me also, I find that the more I walk around, the more my pelvis/hips stay loose - its worse when I spend the whole day in the same position: sitting, standing, etc.

Hope you find some relief soon!

  • I have the same thing (and did with my first). According to Dr. Google, it is unlikely to be sciatica, but rather "pelvic girdle pain". I don't say this to correct you (cuz I don't know what you actually have) but to give you something else to search for suggestions on how to manage it.

For me, the pain is significant and right in the centre of my glute but I never have pain radiating down my leg (which is more what you'd see with sciatica apparently).

Anyhoo...good luck. It sucks either way.

  • Yep--this is totally where I am. A chiropractor has been recommended and I am going to check it out. The pain is unbearable!
