Babies on the Brain

How do you pacify yourself when you have BOTB?

My question is in the title. My DH and I will be married 2 years in may. We've discussed a timeline for having children and are planning to TTC at the end of the year. We have a big trip to New York planned and we both decided it would be much better if we waited till then, it's sort of like a 'hooray, let's get busy' type of marker for us. He just got a great new job, I will be starting a better, more flexible one soon. We're going to buy a house (that's one stipulation for having a kid on my end). So, here we are: January 2015. We have to occupy ourselves until the end of the year before we start TTC. I've already perused every message board, blog, and pinterest category related to babies. Oh, and two of our friends are having their babies this month! Oy, baby fever is real people.

Re: How do you pacify yourself when you have BOTB?

  • It is very real! Haha. I stay busy with work, college, gym, and trying to hang out with our child free friends as much as possible.

When I have down time I try and have shows on netflix I am watching. When baby fever first hit I got into Doctor Who. Now I am watching Friends. I guess it is replacing one obsession with another but it works for me when H is in his busy season and I am home alone.

I also jump at every opportunity to babysit. We have a lot of families here that have young kids so I get to babysit once a week which makes me want kids even more but also keeps me happy in the mean time.

I find that I think about it most when I have down time, or on my hour commute to and from work. That being said, I find that the busier I am the less I obsess. I have also been making it a point to hang out more with some of my friends that I don't get to see too often, which keeps it at bay! Oh and so does being on this board!

I have had baby fever for about a year now as well. DH wasn't quite ready and we are beginning to talk about kids now.

It has helped me to stay super active and set small goals for myself. I made 2 quilts this summer, got back into working in my classroom and made new center activities, now I'm on week 3 of the insanity program. It has really helped to have something to look forward to accomplishing every few months.

I too have had all 3 best friends get pregnant and have kids within this year. DH has had 2 of his. Man... waiting is hard but it will be worth it!!

  • It's very real. We decided when we got married to wait 2 years, but I had the fever right after our honeymoon. I learned about charting and hung out here. It was 6 years ago that we started trying for our first and it went by so fast.

  • I am spending this time to work on me (we're TTC next January, although have talked about pushing it up to this October), and having a boudoir shoot done. Until then, we're having the most fun possible just the two of us, and I've got two semesters left of my Master's program.

I know where you're coming from, though. I'd start now if I could get DH on board, and my baby board on Pinterest is overloaded.

  • I picked up other hobbies to focus on.  We planned our honeymoon for a year after we were married (which was also when we started ttc), so I focused on planning that.  I started biking and signed up for a 25 mile ride, so I trained for that.  It helped to balance out the crazy with non-baby related stuff.

  • I know how you feel! I've been keeping busy by trying new recipes, focusing more on my health/running goals, adding new designs to my Etsy shop, etc.
