I'm starting a mindless discussion

About shopping. Where do you shop? I'm at that age where I'm between the too young stuff and the old lady stuff. If I'm in the states I always visit loft. Any stores similar I should look for on our vacation next month? I was excited to get a Nordstroms here in Canada but it's not the rack. It's crazy expensive! For fun, my friends and I searched for the cheapest item of clothing we could find. It was a Tori Birch tank top for 195! So something along the lines of loft for style and price.

  • I love J. Crew because I'm really short and their petites fit me perfectly. I used to shop the clearance but it's been ages since I bought anything at all for myself. I also like to look at TJ MAXX. You never know what you'll find.

  • I'm in the same boat, stuck between too young and too old.  I mostly shop at NY and Co, Target, Old Navy, Khols.  The problem with dept stores are trying to determine which dept you should shop in.  I just try to avoid the obviously young looking stuff, and the stuff with elastic waist pants.

  • I can't believe you couldn't find anything cheaper than $195 tanktop?!? That must be a really high-end Nordstrom's because the ones we have around here carry so many brands that really very in price and $195 tank top is the higher-end. ;)

I shop mostly at Nordstroms, Loft, White House/Black Market, even Target!

I am in Calgary, Canada and it's insane. The brand new nordstroms only has fashion, no other departments which I find weird too. The kids department had some pants for about 50 but the 200 tank was seriously the cheapest we could find. I picked up a pair of shoes I liked and they were marked 1700 so I knew it wasn't a place for me lol! I think it's all very high end, Tori Birch seemed the cheapest but mostly it was Valentino, etc. Target Canada is now closing, as most consumers couldn't believe the prices. I loved them but it was way more expensive than the states. A cute kids outfit was 30 that I could find across border for 12/15. A typical picture frame at our target would be 30/40, home stuff was pretty high compared to walmart.

I get a lot of my suits from there and $195 is what I'm used to spending for an entire set-up.  Sure, they've got the higher end items mixed in, but that's not the entire store, and I've yet to meet a staff person there who was first to put me in the more expensive set-ups (which weren't the right cut for my body style which is why they didn't even suggest that)...
