Workout / Fitness Check-In Jan 20

Hello Ladies! Sorry I'm a day late to start this thread since things have been a little bit crazy. I'm pleased to report that I did 3 proper gym sessions last week. Thanks for the motivation you all give me! I felt so blardy damn good after all 3 workouts. I'm currently on a business trip which means no lunch time workouts. I do walk from the hotel to the office and back so that's a good small amount of exercise. There is a gym here and I packed gym clothes but forgot my runners. :( I'll promise to do a workout in my room and stuff on the weekend!

As usual, report back how your week went and what your plans are for this week.

QOTW:
What is your favorite music playlist ? (Thank you @walshbunnie)

Re: Workout / Fitness Check-In Jan 20

  • I did 3 gym sessions and even did squats and lunges. My hamstrings were so sore! I'm loving having energy again tho.

And on Friday I food a 3.2 mile jog/walk. The jogging part was probably 1.5 miles total and had to walk in intervals.

I got my five days in last week. Today was a holiday from work and I totally slept in and have been a bum all day. I was planning to go Saturday for yoga anyway so it's all good. Or so I'll keep justifying it! ;)

No real video tips. I tend to listen to either the Fall Out Boy or Thirty Seconds to Mars I heart radio stations. Or my own eclectic mp3 mix.

ETA: in case you missed it, I had my first baby related yoga fail Saturday. I couldn't do pigeon pose, it was too uncomfortable. I was sad, pigeon is one of my very favorite poses.

  • I took a 2 mile walk today. Has been nice to finally be off bed rest due to adrenals. Enjoying walks on nice days and yoga when too cold. But today was so sunny out!!

Anyone have a good easy arm workout? One place I have seemed to be putting weight... my upper arms!

    My DVD suggestions....

Prenatal Vinyasa Yoga & Short Forms.... I love that they have a woman in each trimester so you can see the adjustments needed for each. Also love that they have 15 min, 30 min, and a full length practice.

I have Suzanne Bowen's Long and Lean prenatal practice... yoga and pilates... but haven't tried it yet.

  • I FINALLY got to the gym last week - did a 45 min on the elliptical and squats and stretching. The goal is to do it at least 3 times this week - Tuesday, Wed and Friday. We'll see. Needs to be priority for sure. I usually don't work out to DVDs but I'm looking for a good yoga one, for the days I don't go to the gym.

  • My running was inconsistent last week.  Went Monday and Friday, but had meetings all day Tuesday and Wednesday and then papers to get out Thursday.  Blergh.  Still doing pilates every night though, so that's something!  And one of my friends is training for a half marathon in March.  I've got a 5k that weekend, but I think I'm going to train with her anyway, just for the company.

@finchfeeder80 - I'd be bummed about the pigeon pose too!  I like that one.  Why can't you do it anymore?  Is it bothering your back or hips?

I haven't done them since pregnant, but theoretically I could and adapt, but my favorite youtube videos are by blogilates. This one goes out to @tinybugsmom!

  • Hey there new to the thread, but I did 3 days of yoga last week and plan for 2 days this week, loving how I feel after it and I felt LO move for the first time during the meditation at the end the class I took on Thursday night, so looks as if LO likes it to! Unfortunately I don't have an video recommendations :(
  • I did better this week. Two PT sessions last week (the trainers both know I'm pregnant, but they are cutting me ZERO slack ... I feel like such a weakling).

I also did Tracy Anderson's pregnancy project DVD twice this weekend. She has a different workout for each month, so I did month four and then also tried out month three; it was slightly harder.

Only word of caution for her workouts ... there's a lot of work on all fours (knees/hands) and if you've had any acid reflux (like I have), being in that position can start to become uncomfortable.

I just ordered some pregnancy workout pants from Old Navy and so excited for them to come! My regular pants are starting to become uncomfortable.

  • I came down with Montezuma's Revenge on our vacation this weekend and had the pleasure of throwing up in 3 airports during our return yesterday. Had to cancel my spinning class this morning because I was too weak to teach but I am thankfully keeping food and fluids down today and hoping to get a walk in tomorrow while temps are higher. Will resume cycling and abs/arms on Wed morning.

I just do a simple arm workout with a medicine ball: 10 cross body standing core crunches on each side, 10 shoulder raises, 10 overhead tricep raises, and 10 bicep curls.

I'm always looking for new music for playlists so I appreciate any suggestions you all have!
  • Got three runs in last week. 2 x 3 mi and a half marathon over the weekend.

Will take it easy this week since I signed up for back to back halves prior to knowing I was pregnant. Probably just run once before the race this weekend.

  • I got in 30-45 minutes of yoga 6/7 days this past week. Intensity just depended on how I felt. The weather has also been nice so I got in 2 walks this weekend.

I haven't done any YouTube workouts, but I have a YogaGlo account and love the prenatal yoga practices from Jo Tastula, Carol Westerman, and Stephanie Snyder. Jo has an awesome active flow as well as a great gentle flow class. Carol has an awesome class that has a lot of squats in it which I am loving right now!

@blu-eyedwife‌ , it was really uncomfortable in my abdomen. I didn't like the way it pulled or something, it was a little too much pressure. Had to happen some time, I suppose. :)

I did prenatal yoga, walking, and some barre work this last week. I actually found a great barre class on YouTube that I'm using so thank you @leenziepops for the QOTW! For anyone who likes barre, it totally kicked my ass (actually mostly my thighs) and I couldn't use my legs right for two days afterwards. I also hadn't done a barre class for prob about 6 months, so that didn't help... I'll put the link below.

    I hope that works!

  • I went to Pilates Monday and Thursday. I took my dog for a long walk yesterday, but didn't work out as much as I hoped.

I also have Suzanne Bowen's Long & Lean Prenatal work out and if you like Pilates I think you'd like it. I really like it, and it gets my heart rate up as well.

Sorry to hear you were sick. Sounds awful whatever you had. Please don't push yourself too hard before you recover. For music playlists, I type workout music into youtube and there are some pretty awesome ones. I'm not on personal laptop where i have things saved, but i think the following link will give you a start:

  • I got in workouts everyday but Saturday - but did some furnitire moving and some days I got in a morning and an afternoon workout. Today the weather was nice and I tested out my ankle and got in a great 3 mile run. I had to take a break at my friend's office to borrow her bathroom, but other than traffic pauses, I ran the whole way. Tomorrow I have to wake up to get a 5am workout done as I have a late away game to coach, otherwise the week should hopefully be as good as last week. I'm not sleeping well (still) and I was really hoping the double workouts would help, but so far nothing improving in that department.

I bought my first maternity anything today (18 w3d) - running tights - but not sure when I will need them, just felt I should have a pair ready just in case my belly decides to pop out.

Great job with your workouts everyone!
  • Last week headaches totally killed my week and now this week a head cold. I have two training apts this week but haven't fit in my cardio lately.

Still rowing, weighted squats, arms, climbing stairs and yoga. Also found an empty floor at work where I can do some exercises or meditate when needed... It's awesome!! I hide in a smaller room up there during meditation so no one finds me :) Oh and I got a long hike in this weekend... 47 degrees here which was practically steamy
  • I just started working out again...got my second session in tonight and feel pretty good. Hoping DS didn't get me sick so that I can keep it up!

Since I am only supposed to lift 5-10 lb weights or use a resistance band and suggestion on what I can do to increase my upper body strength? I'm going to need it after my c/s to help get myself moving.

  • I swam laps for 40 min on Saturday evening- discovered that I really need a new bathing suit to fit my enormous boobs. I currently have a J.Crew one piece with removable straps and as I was walking from the locker room to the pool area, both straps popped off at the same time. Also, feel like I can't breathe in it. Today, I did intervals on the treadmill, speed walking at an incline of 6 & 9, then did like 10 min of weights. Feeling quite accomplished!
  • Joined a new gym last week and got a trainer who specializes in pregnancy workouts. We meet once a week and she give me workouts to do for 3 more days. :-) feeling so much better!!

  • Belong to the YMCA but haven't been since first trimester when I got sick during yoga... I did start going to Prenatal Yoga but it is SO SO boring, help! I've also joined the Barre3 Jan challenge and there are great pre-natal videos to follow and 10, 30 and 60 min options which I love! I just need to motivate and find the energy to do them. So far, challenge-failed. :(
  • Feeling great. Still doing 5 days a week of insanity. Insanity max cardio, insanity max interval, insanity max plyo, insanity power and resistance, insanity plyo circuit. Love love insanity! Still able to keep up the pace with him and continue doing all exercises up to par. For now. I know I will be tapering off as baby gets bigger. Only Gained 7 pounds so far from starting weight at week 5. Belly is big. Baby is healthy. Woohoo.
  • Wow, nice work everyone! I got in two 25 minute DVD workouts and a 40-minute elliptical session in last week and hope to do the same plus one more elliptical this week.

I do the Lindsay Brin DVD workouts. They aren't too hard but get my muscles working pretty good. I'm starting to add some additional arm workouts into her upper body session because she doesn't get your biceps going.

  • Checking in late here. Traveling cross-country over the holiday weekend occupied a lot of my time, but I did run a 10k race this weekend in Huntington Beach, California. After the race, DH and I rented beach cruisers and pedaled up & down the coast covering about 15 miles. We also did a TON of walking. According to my fitbit we did 15-20k steps every day!

  • I got to the gym 5xs this week. Body pump twice, spin, HIIT, and zumba.

My favorite home DVDs are Physique57 and Barre3. I took barre classes when on mat leave with #2.  When I returned to work I didn't have the time to go anymore so I bought the dvds and I love them.  I try to do it 2-3 times a week in the mornings.
  • Got my 5.5 mi runs in 4x last week.  Hoping for the same this week.  Next week I think I'm going to cut half a mile because I'm getting too slow.

Also doing squats & planks.  Planks won't last much longer, lol.

  • Wow,this check-in is getting big, now that we're all in the 2nd tri :)

The three day weekend helped me - did a 90 min. run/hike on Sat, 90 minute bike ride on Sunday and a 3 hour run/hike on Monday.

So far my favorite pregnancy DVD is - "Fit and Sleek Prenatal Physique." Haven't tried too many Youtube videos yet, though I've been mixing them in for variety.

I have a Pandora account that is solely running/workout stations - everything from alt-pop (Phoenix, Miike Snow) to top 40/EDM, to Rage/Chili Peppers (when I'm grouchy, haha).

Last week I did pretty well. Monday I did the second-trimester workout from the Summer Sanders prenatal DVD, Tuesday I went to a Caribbean Cardio class (so much fun!), Wednesday I did three segments of the 10 Minute Solution Prenatal Pilates DVD. Th and F off. Saturday I went to a prenatal yoga class, and Sunday I did a run/walk for 25 minutes, then did an upper body segment from Fit & Sleek Prenatal Physique. @mindaa, thanks for the rec!

This week I am planning to alternate DVD workouts with 1 dance class, 1 yoga class and at least one run/walk session. I've already done the lower body barre, sculpt and stretching sessions from Fit & Sleek-- killer!
