Land Rover LR4 & Diono Seats

Long shot but ... Has anyone installed either a Diono Rainier or Radian XRT in an LR4 forward facing? We ordered a car but the dealership doesn't have one available for us to try car seats in and I need to get DD a new seat.

Re: Land Rover LR4 & Diono Seats

  • Is there a reason you want to buy a convertible seat if your daughter is forward facing? Buying a combination seat would be much more practical as it will last much longer than the Dionos.

  • The Radian RXT and Rainier are both convertible+booster. One is forward facing harness up to 90lbs and the other is up to 80lbs, then convert to belt position booster. She is tiny and the seat will more than likely expire before she even remotely reaches the harness limits. I only mentioned the FF because I've seen reviews (for other cars) that people preferred one over the other for RF but since we are not RF I want FF reviews in that particular vehicle.

So, I'm just curious if anyone installed either in an LR4 and can provide some feedback ... or if anyone has owned BOTH of these models and prefers one over the other.

Just so you know, the Diono booster isn't very usable. When the harness is outgrown height wise, the booster is outgrown as well because it had a fixed belt guide.

ETA: the booster mode also has a 50 pound minimum, so since you said she is tiny, she may never even be able to use the booster on these seats.

I just want you to be aware there are FAR better options out there if you are looking for a ff harness and booster.

  • If you join Car Seats for the Littles on FB, you will probably find someone with that car who can tell you more about the car itself.

  • I have an LR4 and I can tell you that I have the two forward facing Britax seats (one Britax Pinnacle booster and one Britax Marathon). Sorry no Diono or Radian info!

  • @ChicagoBroad26 can you sit in between the 2 car seats comfortably? That's one of my biggest concerns because I like to sit between them when we travel (DH drives, lol). I tried Car seats for Little but nobody had the car to answer me so I thought I'd try here. I'm not so much concerned with her using the booster mode, like I said the seat will expire before she hits the max for the harness weight or height ... She's 2% height & weight. I liked the slim factor of the RXT & Rainier because they fit nicely in the back of DH's new Camero where our current Recaro seats were a very tight squeeze. So I gave both of my Recaro's to a friend for her huge SUV and need to get 2 new seats for DD. The problem is I need seats now and can't try anything in the LR4 for 3 months since it's ordered and not here.

@Caseyk1127 I have two Diono Rainier carseats that I got last month. The seat doesn't expire for 12 years, so I am wondering why people keep saying it is going to expire before your kid is done using it. Anyway, my three year old is still RF-ing in my car (she is 26 pounds and 35 inches tall). I drive a Cadillac CTS sedan and it fits in there RF-ing. We also installed one in our 4-door GMC Sierra truck. Originally I had it RF-ing, but it was behind the passenger seat and didn't fit well (because the Diono is a taller seat)...and the passenger seat had to be moved up closer to the dash. And while it was comfortable for me to still sit there, my FIL and my husbands friends who are much taller, find it uncomfortable. So now we have it FF in our truck. We have no issues with it not fitting.

I am guessing that the LR4 might have a back seat the same size as a mid-sized SUV? My friend has two Diono Rainier's in the back of her Jeep Grand Cherokee. By getting rid of her other carseats (both FF), and getting the Diono, it gave an additional 10 inches of space in the back seat for her oldest son.

  • You have to bump your post in CSFTL, and understand that you don't have a commonly used vehile. There's also over 90k people in the group and it moves fast, so bump every few hours.

I have Radians and wouldn't ever buy them for a ff only, even for it being narrow. Their strength is in longevity rf for higher weights, definitely not for ff. You're probably better off with a Harmony Defender, it's just as narrow and converts to hbb and lbb, and will last longer in harness mode. They're doing a reset and Burlington will also be getting them back in stock next month, as well as Walmart (and Burlington is getting pink). Amazon has some right now, and you can order directly from Harmony.

And the issue with the Rainier/Olympia/Pacifica is the flared top, it might not be comfortable for whomever is sitting between them, as compared to the Radian series.

Elsa did you try using the angle adjuster? Radians fit in tiny cars using it, makes a huge difference. I think you might have seen people talking about it not being the only seat you'll ever need, not necessarily that it'll expire before you're done with it. It would be comical for me to see my 8 year old try fitting in one in booster mode...over 50# and under the 57".....yeah, even my 6 yo doesn't fit at just under 50#, they're too tall. ;)

  • @CaseyK1127
No, I cannot fit comfortably between the two, to be honest. I'm small (5'3") and it's tight.
Sorry, wish I had better info for you!
