Marine delaying MOS school for birth?

So DH is in the Reserves, and he finishes bootcamp on the 16th. Then he is on a 10 day leave, goes to MCT and then MCES. Due to the schedule of MCES he will as of now miss the birth. Does anyone know or has anyone heard of a Marine delaying the start date of their MOS date due to pregnancy or birth?

I know its a long shot that you guys might know the answer, but I thought I would ask anyways. I guess I'll know for sure after DH and I go talk to his recruiter after he is on leave.

  • I can only speak of Army- but I know we cannot do that. I am crossing my fingers the marines are different for you!

  • Typically that will not happen.
  • Ah ok, I was thinking maybe it would be possible, because he is reserves, but yeah I knew it would be a long shot...

  • The Air Force is very family friendly, so I know some Airman that have been able to request a different date for circumstances such as birth. I hope you're just as lucky.

  • @jasminelorraine20 thanks! I hope so too! I know Marines are family friendly, within reason. It just depends on who is in command for DH's unit. I am trying to mentally prepare myself to go through the rest of the pregnancy alone, the birth alone and the first month alone, but its so hard to swallow.

  • It really just depends on the command. My DH is scheduled to deploy in a couple days and I am due about a week after he is supposed to leave. They don't care and are sending him anyways instead of delaying him or switching him. He will be gone 9 months. It sucks but really just depends on the command. I'm sorry you are having to go through this. It's tough but you can do it!

We have been to 3 different duty stations and have yet to find these "family friendly" marines. Guess DH has had bad luck in his command. :-/
