To be very blunt, I dislike the name, especially the random capitalization.

  • As @lauralou2210‌ stated. Is it pronounced Nicholas? I don't like that name at all to be blunt.

  • It's really unusual. I think the only place I've heard the name is off The Originals.
  • I love Nicholas!

On the other hand, Niklaus is Slavic so if that's your ethnicity or you truly love it, then go with it, but there is no reason to spell it with the capital K in the middle. I think that's what's throwing me off from looking at it and wondering wtf.

If the name is intended to be Nicholas I also don't like the spelling because you can't tell how to pronounce it. If this is a foreign variation of Nicholas that is significant to yours or DH's culture or background, then It's a different story. But I wouldn't know how to pronounce this name on sight, Ny Claws? Nicholas is a beautiful name I just think if there is no significance to that spelling then use a more phonetic one.
  • I prefer the traditional spelling of Nicholas. It's a good, solid name.
  • I don't think the spelling makes the parents look uneducated.  I would assume the family (or a part of the family) was of Eastern European/Slavic descent.  Just because it's not Anglicized doesn't mean it's not correct or traditional.

That being said.... if the random capitalization is intentional, that's pretty.... random... and it looks weird and I do not suggest including it.

  • I noticed you said it's the same name as one of the characters on The Originals. That name, if I'm right, is pronounced Nick-Klaus (2 syllables). No one will ever say it right, everyone will say Nicholas... I would not use it.

  • I like Nick as a baby name - I too am curious the origin though - Slavic, after The Originals, after Jack Nicklaus, or is there another name story?  I like origin stories :-)

  • I heard it from The Originals, and thought it was interesting. Niklaus is the German/ Slavic form of the name Nicholas. Its different and the I like the nicknames Nick & Klaus.
  • Are you Slavic? If not, stick with Nicholas.

I'm not a fan of the name Avery, but I like Niklaus. The uppercase 'K' is strange, and would make things difficult for your son. I don't think you have to be Slavic to name him Niklaus - plenty of Americans use names from other countries. Nobody says, "If you're not Irish, you shouldn't name your daughter Caitlin..."

    Nicholas is a Greek name.

  • I'm a fan on oddly spelled names myself, sibling and kids are proof that it runs in the family but I'm not a fan of the spelling here. Sorry

  • Is the capital K intentional?
  • I love the name..however think about how many times your son will need to correct people and if that matters to you. I love traditional names if it is your culture.

DH is Greek so we are sticking with Greek names but being careful with the spelling so it won't be a PITA for our kids and picking simple names. DH has a super long super Greek name and although it's beautiful he legally changed his name to include a middle name and uses his first initial. So it's A. TOM LASTNAME because he had a ton of issues growing up and entering the work force.

    Something to think about.
