Snoring SO

So my husband snores VERY LOUDLY. Like, you can hear it through closed doors and upstairs from where he is sleeping. It doesn't usually bother me (unless I'm already having trouble getting to sleep, because then it makes me want to punch him in his sleeping/snoring face), but I started wondering last night if it would be a problem once the baby gets here? We're planning on having baby sleep in our room for a while... will the snoring just add to the number of times we wake up during the night or do you think baby will have gotten used to hearing it? Because I mean, if I can hear him snoring from outside the house, pretty sure baby is getting an earful in my belly during the night.

Anybody with some first hand experience?

Re: Snoring SO

  • My DH snores so loudly you can hear him on other floors through closed doors. My DD has never been woken up by it. When we talk about his snoring she thinks we are crazy because she never heard it.

  • @mnp48 I have a sound machine on the registry and we'll definitely give it a try, but I think we could have Metallica playing on a stereo at max volume and you'd probably still hear my husband.  :(

  • Good question.  I don't know the answer.  I thought this was going to be "what do you do to stop him?" and I was going to admit to kicking/punching DH in his sleep to get him to stop.  It's the only thing that gets him to move!

  • I could have written this post!

Sleeping with my husband is like sleeping next to a freight train. Last night I actually woke him up and asked him to go sleep on the couch. We're planning to keep the baby in our room too and I've been wondering the same, but most likely she'll just be used to the noise so hopefully it won't be a problem.

  • I buy "earplugs for women" in bull at Walmart. They're pink and yellow and fit smaller ears and probably saved my relationship!
  • I have a feeling your baby will adapt to it. However, my husband has been diagnosed with sleep apnea. That is why he snores so badly. If untreated, it can cause problems in the future such as with the heart. He wears a c-pap machine at night. Besides helping him in the long run, it makes his snoring barely be able to be heard by you. A sleep study is necessary to diagnosis it. Good luck!
  • My husband only snores when he is sleeping on his back, and everytime he snores I hit him or plug his nose. He says it doesn't wake him up and usually he stops snoring or rolls to his side and will stop.

  • @mnp48 H and his dad and BIL are all the super special kind of snorers that would require surgery to fix it completely (yay, genetics). We do have a humidifier in the room, though, but it's mostly for me and my pregnancy nosebleeds. Sitting up some helps him, when he loses a little weight it helps a bit, and definitely allergies make it worse, but it'll never go away completely unless we do the surgery.

This post makes H and me sound like a total disaster couple. Haha.

  • @erbear84 My signature move is a sharp poke to the ribs. Gets my frustration out and he usually doesn't even remember why he woke up.

All these years and I never thought about earplugs! I usually just slap my DH around until he wakes up, that way I can fall back asleep before him. Every night is a struggle.

  • My DH sleep talks, walks, and snores. It's REALLY fun (actually the talking can be fun, if I've had enough sleep). Apparently I also sleep talk, but nothing to the extent he does. I'm hoping baby will just be used to it and be able to see it as comforting. I make him roll over, if I can, but it doesn't always help. I'm tempted to make him get a sleeping test before baby comes, since sleep apnea does run in his family.

  • My ex husband snored very loudly, and it never kept DD up at night. I think the babies just kind of adjust. It's also very loud inside right now, so they are used to loud sounds.

  • Ditto the ladies who said that you need to get your SO sleep tested. Snoring that loudly regularly is a clear indication something needs help.

  • @WifeDeAngel He's seen a doctor about it. He doesn't have sleep apnea, it's just his soft palate. He even snores sometimes when he's awake and very relaxed. He could have it surgically removed, but it doesn't affect his sleep or health so we haven't been very worried about getting it done.

  • Lol I am glad I am not alone in the kicking H to roll over area! He also moans in his sleep. Kind of like whimpering. If I talk to him during the moaning time he will answer in weird little moans. I think it's hilarious!!
  • And a sleep study is definitely recommended if it's really bad. Does nasal strips help?
  • My husband was pretty sure that our daughter slept through the night the first 3 time because he was on night duty and she was lulled to sleep by the sound of his snoring.  I am skeptical.

I have since made hiim get a sleep study and a CPAP, because his snoring makes me want to throat punch him.
