IUGR

Hi...I am 30 weeks pregnant and have been diagnosed with IUGR. My son's abdomen is measuring only at the 6th %ile. I am very anxious about what this means for the rest of my pregnancy. I was told I would not go past 38 weeks and that I would most likely have a csection. Has anyone had any experience with this? TIA

Re: IUGR

  • Not sure if anyone here is currently experiencing this. You might try the high-risk board.

  • No experience, but T&P your way.
  • Thanks...the drs have said that a vaginal delivery may be too difficult for the baby so we are erring on the side of caution with a csection

  • No experience, but T&Ps that all turns out ok. As previously suggested, you may want to try the high risk board.
  • @kab929‌ my son had IUGR. He was delivered at 34 weeks weighing in at 3.5 lbs./3rd %ile...he just stopped growing. There was nothing wrong with blood flow(nutrition) from my cord and though I had PIH, the drs don't think it had anything to do with his unexplained IUGR. He was just little. We supplemented my milk for 3 months with formula to give him the max calories he could have. He was a grower/feeder in the nicu/PCN for 28 days and had severe reflux. Today he is a healthy 3 year old! That boy can sometimes eat me out of the house! He has more energy than I could even explain. The beginning was rough due to issues being preemie and so small, so far behind.

The precaution having a csection, per my understanding and situation, was he needed to come out early to grow better. I could have been induced at 34 weeks but being so early it would have been stressful on both of us so a csection was the best choice.

Good luck! If you have any other questions or need support I'd be happy to chat. Just pm. Also, the preemie board was a godsend to me!

  • Lots of T&Ps for you xx
  • Thanks for the information! my umbilical cord bloodflow has been completely normal along with everything on my BPPs which I am having done weekly. I have a three yr old who was born at 33 weeks so that is why I have been monitored so closely and the IUGR was caught. My son was gigantic though..weighing 5 lbs at 7 weeks early so with this new little guy being so small I am a little out of my element. The drs basically explained that he will most likely be born at a gestation that is about a month later than my oldest but might be the same size or smaller. I am very worries about a long NICU stay again despite making it to full term which is what we hope to do and if all stays the same will be able to do.
  • My son was diagnosed IUGR at about 33 weeks. He was measuring 2 weeks behind. I was already being monitored for GD so in addition to that my doctor started doing cord dopplering and BPPs. Every ultrasound he was 2 weeks behind on growth but the dopplers and BPPs never showed any issues. I went into preterm labor with him at 35 weeks which the doctor stopped with tertubaline(sp?). At my 36 week checkup my doctor discussed induction with me and made the decision that since he didn't seem to be growing that he would do better out of utero and decided to induce me the following week at 37 weeks. I went into induction at 2 cm dilated and 90 % effaced and had no issues during my induction. I was in labor 7 hours andpushed 15 minutes and he was born 5 lbs 4.2 oz ans 19 inches and perfectly healthy. My placenta was sent for testing but they never found issues with it so still not sure to this day what caused his delay I'm growth. He was a tiny guy and we had weight gain issues up until he turned 3. Now he's a big, healthy 5 year old who's 90 percentile for weight and you'd never know he was an IUGR baby.
  • Sending you prayers. My mom had IUGR with me. I was born 3.5lbs full term. She delivered me by emergency c-section.
